K, I have a guard army and a space marine army already.
Thinking of selling mos tof the marine army though and starting anew with wolves, whoever I like fluff and play alot of apoc. so I am wanting to link the two armies together, the problem is my guard are an wasteland/dessert scheme (tallarn city i guess)
but wolves are always shadow grey or some variant of that.
My question is, do they have to be that color, or can I paint them how i want ( very earth toned)
Is this completely against space wolf ethics (or lack there of if i understand)?
If it is a bad idea, can I simply take the codex and rules, but make my own chapter and back round an different names and what not like GW suggests for the special characters in the SM book?

You can paint your army however you want. Almost no one cares about your theme and paint job, as long as you like it that's what matters.
The 40k universe is a big place, I'm sure some SW could get lost in the Warp and come out years and years later a bit....changed? :]
Check my Blog for Battle Reports, useless ranting and more! Comments appreciated.
Like to talk Warhammer or want some advice on Armies or Tactics? Drop me a PM!
haha, Thank you prince.
So for everyone else, i would like the models to compliment eachonther, the guaurdsmen are tanish, armour darker tanish
with black pelts and red guns, or organge?
and then silver fro meltal, or gold/ bornze
I see no problem with this, as there has even been talk of people using chaos space marines with space wolf rules, as they can be seen as very similar lists with a heavy competative preference on the wolves.
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
Go back a few years and check out the old Eye of Terror codex, there are some good variations used in there for the Space Wolves 13th Chapter.
This might give you some good inspiration for some thematic changes...
Space Wolves: Great Company of Berek Starkiller, 3700 pts.
Imperial Guard: XII Cytherian Regiment: 1400 pts.
15 years experience, numerous other models not fielded.
With the space Wolves penchant for taming and riding.. er.. wolves, it might be an interesting idea to have a wolf like, wolves rules, chapter, that tame lions instead. The colours would match your guard nicely, and there are plenty of Lion models out there. Including the Lions would reinforce the space wolves link and should deter anyone from criticising you.
Jager bombs. Very efficient at wiping out friend or foe.
pre-heresy wolves are the best
or something more custom
My wolves are a dark brick red/almost brownish with bleached bone highlight, im still trying to work out the fluff for them. But basicly its a second founding that came about from a great hunt that found a planet with primitive warriors that had a warrior of the gods who appeared in a great bolt of lighting, and taught them to follow the ways of the wolf packs in thier great mega-flora forests. And also to fight the hellspawn that come from some ancient ruins every 13 years. So the wolf priests figured out that it happened just after russ dissapered so these tribes must be destined to be space wolfs. They take there bloodclaws from the warriors that survive the demon incursion, though they grudgenly allow the demonhunters to take any that show psychic potentional for thier ranks. Because thats about the only thing that keeps them from cleansing the planet. Ive had a few nitpickers say "ohh no you cant do that, space wolfs only have one chapter and so many wolflords" But all the guys i play with are cool with it so i just tell them to get bent
Ok i guess thats my long winded way of saying paint them however you want.
I really like the lion idea, but where could i get lions/ other beasts?
And suggestions for fielding them, I think that an HQ unit all mounted would be neat, maybe bikes.
That would be a "apoc" unit most likely, but still be fun to sculpt, customize, paint.
Would they be a suitable bike equivalent, with a hand turret of 2 bolt guns, or each rider carrying a storm bolter? suggestions
what else could I use lion/ other woodland critters for?
Thank you all very much, it helps alot
