as the name suggests I want to know what you think what work best with Wolves, Speeders or bikes.
I'd go with the bikes.
1. They're cheaper than speeders.
2. You still can get a HB or MM.
3. A bigger selection of gear.
4. A +1 to toughness.
5. Sweet special rules.
Speeders have their place, and wicked ways to deploy them, I just prefer bikes.
But speeders are better at shooting than wolf bikers and i need anti tank
I'd say speeders. Swiftclaws just don't seem to be reliable (read: accurate) enough to get the job done. Not to mention you need to stick a Wolf Guard into the group to prevent them from assaulting the nearest possible enemy (the Headstrong rule); something a canny opponent can use to his advantage.
Heck a Wolf Guard kitted out for anti-armour costs 78 points (bike, power fist, combi-melta)
Even bare naked (with just the bike) he's quite expensive at 53 points; almost as much as a land speeder equipped with multi-melta!
That's my take on the subject
Depending on your funds, you can utilise both.
The Speeders pack a huge wallop on the battlefield and can deep strike, and with the Typhoon/Tornado options, you can gear them for antiinfantry, antitank or mix it up.
The bikes, i find, take more punishment with the bonuses they offer to toughness, and can be fielded in larger numbers. I use them to rush enemy monstrous creatures or characters, the options available to them mean they can deal out a fair bit of death, too.
Space Wolves: Great Company of Berek Starkiller, 3700 pts.
Imperial Guard: XII Cytherian Regiment: 1400 pts.
15 years experience, numerous other models not fielded.
Speeders give you that speed and ranged anti-tank Wolves need, Swiftclaw Bikes are trash.
If you're going for an anti-tank squad, then I would go for a Speeder.
My beefs with the Speeder is 1) They seem fairly easy to taken down and 2) GW did a real bang-up job with the sprues fitting into the box.
Bikers are "trash"? Hardly.
Blood Claws are meant as en-mass, anti-troop packs and mine exceed well at this. Ok, I have a WG with them, and he's armed with a frost weapon. The pack itself has 1 PW ( I use PWs on squads under 10 ), a flamer, and a attack bike. I run them up a flank, and attack what stys behind the enemy's line.
Ever see a 15man BC pack, with WG, flying out of a LR Crusader?
It's love ...
That's a lot of points for a bunch of WS3 S4 attacks. If BCs could take more than 1 PF and didn't need an expensive WG to babysit them they would be useful.
In lower points I like the idea of a couple of landspeeders. They pack a lot of punch (just like in nilla SM, since they're the same) and since they can deepstrike that makes them infinitely more useful in lower points. Stick a typhoon missile launcher on them, and they can handle pretty much anything when they come in from reserve (very useful against mech lists, drop 'em in from the rear and watch enemies cry when their AV14 front tanks get gutted from behind at AV10.
However, I do like bikes, since they have far greater anti-infantry capability overall (being able to take more models, assault, get PWs and all). TL-bolters are very useful, and you can still kit them from anti-vehicle, though it costs a little more.
In reality, they are cheaper than normal SM by about 15 points default, and the AB is 10 points cheaper too. That helps to offset some of the costs of fielding a wolf guard (not all of them, mind you, but every little bit helps). WS3 doesn't matter too much for when you attack, since you will still only need a 4+ usually, and BS3 is fine because you have TL-bolters. Also, one little thing that can make a big difference is that everyone can have melta bombs, not just a sgt. If an opponent decides to mech up, having 6 bikes with melta bombs will make him cry (and rightfully so).
In all, I like bikes for SW even though I like them a little less than normal SM ones. Still, I plan on using them in my 2000 point army, along with a couple of DSing landspeeders. Honestly, it's a group of fast attacks to be reckoned with.
As an Ultramarines player, I enjoy Landspeeders very much as I own 3. I haven't yet collected any bike units. However, I hear they fair pretty well. By proxy I would assume Space Wolves bike units would benefit the army's playstyle of aggressive hard hitting assault capable units.
I haven't looked up Wolves Bike units, but if they are as what was said earlier only WS3. Then that would lean me to advise more strongly for Landspeeder use, for AT (MM / Typhoon ML, and long range Anti-Infantry (2x HB. or HB / Typhoon ML)
