been playing a lot fo games against tau lately and to put it as best i can, have been having mixed results. Either scrapping wins or being totally annihilated. how does everyone else deal with these pesky shooty ailiens?
I play tau, and from personal experience, drop pods and deep strike tactics have beat me down quick. Also depending on what he has equipped, termie drops work well.
Yep, pods, bikes, Typhoons, etc all help lots in kicking the fishy ones collective bum.
Most of the games against Tau that I have done well in I have taken a few hard hitting and fast lists.
Shrike is great with an assault squad or vanguard. Turn one close combats do not help the Tau at all.
Drop pods with sternguard (combi melta and heavy flamers) really don't improve their day.
Khan with flanking bikes isn't a favouirite of the Tau's either.
And finally Typhoons are crisis suit killers! Love them.
In all you may see a few patterns in these sort of options. These are:
1. You will rarely out shoot the Tau. Don't try.
2. Tau don't like you upclose. Thats where you should be in force.
3. Tau are very manouverable. You should be too.
4. Tau like tanks. They blow up easy. Don't take any.
Best lists I've taken have had lots of pods or bikes supported with 3 typhoons or shrike and assault units. Heavy flamers and flamers are very handy!
Hope that helps.
This man speaks truth. BTW nice army pic, 14k points... wow lol
Yeah a Mech army is going to get ruined because of Railguns and MLs. Bikes or Pods are going to get in there face to fast and strike first so that's a huge advantage. I've seen a lot of SM lists run a Pod or two for just that reason, against IG as well.
