We all know there's nothing warmer and fuzzier than taking out a terminator with a well placed laspistol shot to the eyeball.
Well my PCS did just that this past game. In fact the Platoon Commander did just that, after the rest of his squad was mowed down by said terminators. He has now officially earned the name An(drew) Oakley.
On the other side of the spectrum, my Lord Commissar, Lil' Hotness, (she's a female commissar) has fired off her plasma pistol 5 times in the last 2 games (you all know what's coming). She's rolled 5 ones! She is bound and determined to kill herself through improper plasma pistol operation!
Here's a question for you all. In my imagination, an overheating plasma pistol explodes and wounds the user. If that is the case then, how can they fire it again in the same game? It exploded and its broken. If that is not what happens, then what does? Do they just cling so doggedly to the gun that it burns their hand (to death)?
I would guess that it didn't explode or she really would be dead. I guess she would wait for it to cool off.
You may keep firing it. It may not be reccomended if your luck is that bad, but you may keep firing it.
Adeptus Mechanicus Marines: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ml#post1655065
I guess if they survive it just got very hot, if they die it exploded. (Although I'm sure somewhere I read something about it venting, so maybe they looking down thw wrong hole at the wrong time.)
I have an epic Company Commander. List of some achievments in a game:
Game1: killed 5 SM termies, 10 SMs and took a SM chapter master down to 1 wound.
Game2: killed 3 Chaos termies, 5 plague marines, and las-pistoled a weakened deamon prince in the face and killed it.
Game3: killed 15 hormaguants, 3 warriors and a carnifex.
He is named Commander F***offium or I. Win depending upon in whose company I am playing.
Unfortuantly everyone else in the army just sucks and dies
commander: fire it! keep firing!
commissar: but we will all die! and the emperoro's duty will not be fulfileed if we end up as plasma goo.
commander: i said fire, not talk flaming @#!$
Commissar fires and the whnole scene flashes in white and leaves behind greenish, blue goo. which the orks hail as Gork's and Mork's blessing. sadly those who try to apply it to their skin are burnt alive.
I reckon that a plasma pistol would start to give of radiation if it overheated, rather than actually exploding. To have so much power in such a small weapon there must be a certain amount of nuclear material in the plasma. Thats what could kill or wound a character. Once it cooled down it would start giving off radiation.
My guard army repeatably kill themselves with their plasma weaponry. My executioner once scattered and killed 5 men. But it doesn't put me off! I still love plasma!
(antique nova): lol.
2500 points of Empire for ToXG: Points painted for month 4: 0 Points painted overall: 510
I have a Stormtrooper who seems to think the best way to fire his Plasma Gun is to sight the enemy by putting his eye to the barrel and then pulling the trigger.
Occupational Health and Safety, anyone?
Space Wolves: Great Company of Berek Starkiller, 3700 pts.
Imperial Guard: XII Cytherian Regiment: 1400 pts.
15 years experience, numerous other models not fielded.
Plasma guns seem to work remarkably well for me.
Its my Melta cannons that cause trouble, ranging to blowing up my own vehicles on a regular basis, to wiping out my own CCS.
In the game of Inquisitor there's 3 different cases when plasma weapons overheat. Overheat, critical overheat and explosion. However neither of them allows you to use it again right away (overheats makes you drop the weapon and it'd have to recharge anyway..).
I guess in 40k when it overheats they just keep it in their hands rather than throwing it away..
My Company Commander is... well generally useless for anything except giving orders. My Commissar Lord is pondering executing him for Cowardice, falling back TWICE in the same battle while in possession of the Regimental Standard.....
On the other hand my Firebat's Veteran squad Sergeant is the definition of a hero. (He mauled a Carnifex with his powerfist (Which he earned because of repeated heroics) yesterday.) Hemightbe inspired by the priest... I should try adding a priest to the CCS... maybe they won't fall back against Tau Fire Warriors next time.... (I kid you not. Twice, in CC with Tau Fire Warriors. The Shame.)
