Im wondering how everyone transports their minis when they travel, even if its just to your local gaming store. Personally I have about 100 IG infantry, two vendettas, a leman russ, and three sentinels.
I am thinking of buying the GW transport cases but I will check standard part cases first as I suspect they might be cheaper. I've also tried to make one with little success. So if anyone has any ideas or would just like to say how they transport their minis, much appreciated.
They do seem to be pretty decent cases, though - apart from a batch that were made of low quality plastic (had those replaced, apparently there was a mess up at GW or something), I haven't had any problems. Easy to use, no thought required. Although, as you say, there's probably cheaper alternatives out there.

Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
I also use a GW case, if you take the wins off a valk/vendetta they can stay on during game (especially if you magnetise) and allow easy transport. In my case I fit 3 russes, 2 chimeras, a valkyrie, and over 100 ground pounders.

I use the rather large black Citadel case. I put all my infantry (80+) in one side. On the other I cut out a lot of the foam, put 2 Russes and 3 Chimeras in it and stack empty foam on top to protect them.
I carry 2 Vendettas in a bag right now, with the flight bases out but I'm going to buy a really small transport for them soon.

I use a large GW case for all my infantry; they still don't all fit and have to be taken in other transports.
I then use a smaller GW case for my tanks, which they all don't also fit into.
To that end I'm currently using a cookie tin filled with packing foam for my remaining infantry; it works surprisingly well.
As for my remaining tanks/Vendetta, they go into a mail box (With my address on it, just in case I need to send the large bastard back to myself) also filled with bubble wrap and packing foam.
Why toss the bloody foam and wrap when I can use it to transport MOAR miniatures!?
Battleforce box with 5 chimeras, Nother box with 3-4 russes, Quality street tin for infantry.
My Guards and Wolves travel in style, snuggly held in foam lined green olive army ammo cases. Nothing but the best for them. The 50 cal ammo cases will hold the standard foam trays for infantry and the small ammo cases are perfect for tanks and such. They can be found cheaply at the military surplus stores.
Where the heck did all them guardsmen come from?
Great Wolf! Is that the howl of the 13th?
1000pts the normal Black GW case serves me right unless it's my Infantry list but thats all metal and a git to cart around anyway. Most lists i have to grab an army case due to having shed loads of vehicles. Even at 1500pts i've got 8 tanks and 6 Sentinels.
I play 1750 - or 1500 (less likely)
I've got 2x large cases and some foam packed GW boxes (chimera etc) with various infantry.
One large case is double infantry (106 per side) and one is 1x infantry and 1xside tank (2x russes, 2x hellhounds, 2x sentinals.)
I swap about depending what i need - if i'm using my tanks i don'r need over 100 infantry (besides my gameplan will normally lead to deep striking stormtroopers with meltas to slap other armour leaving the tanks, geared to kill infantry unhassled)
I'll normally have my rucksack with book, dice etc, and a photocopy paper box that takes 2x vendettas (a valk goes in a card GW box - Important to seperate so i get it the right way up and don't snap the nose antennae off)
I do know that you can fit valks in much more compact areas, however my first one i tried to magnetise - With nemoidian magnets and repeated efforts over days. It wasn't safe so i stripped them out and superglued it (movement base and all - it'd been hollowed out to fit magnets in)
I didn't attach the bases to the others, but did the wings - i thoroughly regret that.
My super heavy machariuses share a case with a basalisk each (That's more as i bought them 2nd hand, cheaply than any other reason)
Ther imperial city box fits baneblade and shadowsword with foam packing.
I have a marine company tthat fits perfectly in the GW large case - 108 infantry is 10x10 man squads, a command squad and commander, with a large commander and standard, and a rhino fits in 2(wide)x2(long) and 3x deep - That fits 6x rhino's, (I'm not giving them to devastators. It's a principle) and a razorback in the remaining 2x deep, with space for scouts and a chaplain.
Ravenwing boxes packed with foam do deathwing & dreads, and another for the ravenwing.
Oh, and my 1500 CSM stay in their CSM battalion box, and 3x rhino's in a shoe box.
It's the tanks that take up space.
For storage battlefoam is highly reccomended and KR multicases are too. (I don't use them but my companions do, and even mock me for being so GW. I think the foam is actually inferior in GW, but I've gone down the route now, so i'll stick with it. Exept battlefoams space hulk "ahem generic space game ahem" foam, which fits into the space hulk box "ahem generic space game" and fits all the models perfectly.

I use a kaiser rushforth case for mine, I have a tank case and infantry case. My infantry case isn't full (yet) but the tank case is a double layer of tanks (a leman russ, sentinel, 2 chimera and a hellhound) and a layer of HWTs. Managed to pick it up pretty cheap on offer too.
