hi, i was wondering how many points do i have to use until i got a good army to play with and also in the space marine codex it has a section on each troop can i just use a simple trooper and just give him a special like design to make him into a sergeant? also i have a lot of spare parts from 3 boxes of tactical squads but i lost about 5 due to unforeseeable stuffs...dog
This should have been posted in the "Space Marine" forum but,
A "good" army size is about 1000pts. 500 isn't bad to start with and it what you get out of Black Reach. Most games will be 1500 or 2000pts.
A Space Marine Tactical Squad consists of 1 Sergeant and 4-9 standard troopers. Sergeants have different wargear options but, otherwise usually look like other troops except with more "stuff" like purity seals or fancy trim. When modeling your units the important part is the wargear they have.
so "stuff" like seals, um...frag grandes, you mean all the little extras u get in the tactial squad box and kinda make them look a lot better?
Do You mean what is the minimum points for a game?
Usually 500 points (can be lower of course, but there`s no point) but the fun starts at 1000 points. What You need is two troops and a HQ (not in 500 points though), that will give You bout 450-500 points.
The best thing that You can do is search the forum, read things and ask for advice (I am not an SM player)
Ok... Kelter Skelter answered while I was writing mine
Yes, a bit different looking that makes him standout will do perfectly for a serg.
The most common option is that they don`t wear helmet... easy to find the sergeant. (that was a very silly rhyme )
heres my current army list do you think i need to make it better or is it current?

1500-2000 is a good sized army.
If a Million Guardsmen die, that's a statistic. If one marine dies, that's a tragedy.
I'm...saddened, that none of you thought to report this so it could be sent to the proper forum...
*Punts thread to space marine forum*
I usually consider 1k to be the point at which you have a "base" army, that's when the real game starts, though higher points get more fun.
Sergeants *usually* have different wargears such as a melee weapon of some sort.
They are usually (maybe always now, I forget) veterans, and as such should be painted like vets.
Terminator armor going critical would be like Three Mile Island only very, VERY angry, and carrying a hammer.
LO rules in a nutshell: Don't post unit costs, be polite, rep posts containing of win.
Well to be fair the only difference between my sergeants and my regular marines is the equipment (most have plasma pistols and power weapons) outside of that i model them to look like normal marines. (i have always preferred the scifi warrior look than the Jervis Johnson Knights in space look).
