The Space Wolves codex states that as long as a space marine is present in their unit fenrisian wolves are subject to the "and they shall know no fear rule". Since the wolves move as beasts is their any point in putting anything other than a thunderwolf mounted character in the unit?
Also does anyone else have any great ideas or uses for the fenrisian wolves in general?
Yeah it seems to be for TW characters who can make them braver and also hide in their unit, basically using them as disposable wounds.
Wolves seem good for 3 things.
1. Hiding TW characters but not slowing them down.
2. Acting as Gaunts for a foot SW army, basically expendable, living cover.
3. Fast Skirmishing units. Tie up gun units, DSers, Outflankers, etc. Great flank defenders from those units as well, that way you don't have to tie up small, pestering units with your main damage dealing units.
Not to mention, Saga of the Wolfkin makes the Fenrisian Wolves attack before any MEQ. That combined with the Counter-Attack rule given to the entire SW army should make the enemy think twice before assaulting them.
Other than that, The Prince pretty much summed it up.
I rather like Fenrisian Wolves. Just because they're not clad in Power Armour doesn't mean they're ineffective.
They're essentially Ork Boyz with Counter-attack and a 12" charge, better Initiative, and always Str 4. All for a measly 2 points more.
I'd like to add to the list.
4) Remain under-rated and unnoticed until they charge with sickening effect. Include a Wolf Lord on a Thunderwolf Mount.. okay, so they won't be unnoticed anymore.. but now you have a solid Ld 10 unit of stompiness for pretty damn cheap.
I've recently become a fan of this thing called Dubstep. And you should too.

I don't under-estimate them but they can't do everything. No power weapons, no powerfists, no guns. There's time to deal with them and they can't threaten a lot of tanks or fast units. That actually might benefit them sometimes because they just aren't as big a threat as some other units, still a threat though.
