10 Grey Hunters with 2 meltaguns and power fist.
A dreadnought with a multi-melta.
In lue of buying the SW battleforce, I'm wondering how I should use the drop-pod in a 1000pt force.
I would like an anti-tank choice, as either a GH pack with 2MG/PF or a MM Dread.
Which do you think is best and why?
Thanks in advance.
I went with the Dread just because I think it is better in a pod than the GH, sure the grey hunters pump out more melta, but you're paying for a 10 man squad; and the fist on the GH won't get into assault if they're in the pod.
I'm assuming you will buy a battle force so I'm just trying to make sure the pod isn't wasted.
If you call it a Missile launcher, then it'll never hit anything.

I voted hunters because you get 2 chances to penetrate the armor instead of 1 in the shooting phase and they wont be (hopefully) incapacitated by 1 lucky shot. Addiionally i would lose the fist, so many points for so little attacks... If you want a fist, just add a wolf guard with fist and combi-melta- sure u can only use the melta once, but the fist is almost twice as effective.
My vote goes for the Dread for its low cost and efficiency.
I vote dread for lower cost, efficiency, and because I think a power fist is a poor choice for a model with only one attack in cc (except for when charging or when charged).
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Hunters are better unless your opponent has no anti-tank. The Dreadnought, however, is ~50 points cheaper, so do what you will with that.

I voted Hunters. They can shoot more reliably (you'll be swearing like a sailor when rolling that 1 on the Dread's MM... Trust me, it's not funny), they can take more punishment (usually) and to top it all off they can snatch objectives.
I'm going with the do as I say not as I do approach, since in my armies my first choice is usually DNs, though technically I run both (so I get double points, Yayyyyy!).
I voted Grey Hunters because in the general scheme of battle they are more useful. They get more attacks in CC (less power weapon ones, but many many more overall), have a little more anti-vehicle (2 meltaguns at close range), can hold objectives, and won't die from one lucky shot with a lascannon.

I voted Dread. After taking care of the intended tank target, the Dread must be dealt with. Opponents have serious fear of a rogue dreadnought running around near them. They draw AT fire away from advancing transports, or my predator/vindicator.
Even a squad of grey hunters in your face will need to be dealt with, but they don't draw the AT fire, like the dread does.
Both are very effective at cracking open a tank, but for me, the opponents AT units have a close threat they must contend with. And regular small arms fire will still be mostly out of range of your infantry, if this is a turn 1 DP.
