I noticed that almost all pics have the spons on the back set of doors on the land raider variants. Is there a problem with placing them on the front pair?
Only thing I could possibly think of is like a LRC where debarking 15 models may not get within 1" of the ramp and having some coem out the doors may not put the unit in the required cohesion. Other than that, you gain almost 2" on the hurricane bolters by placing them at the front.

It appears the weapons can be mounted in either location. Look for the Salamanders painted Land Raider Redeemer/Crusader on the GW's site under Space Marines > Heavy Support.
This kit can build either model, and from the instructions I have for it, you can mount the flamestorm cannons, or the hurricane bolters in the front recess.
Both positions have their pros and cons. Slightly closer ranged, less charge range if large quantity of models can't fit out the front.
Yes the kit allows you to put the sponsons where you want so you can even put one on the front one side and the other on the back on the other. (not that you should as it would just look weird but hey it is your tank)
I guess even both on one side would be technically legal...though it'd be pretty funny looking.
I put mine on the front, that 1" or 2" can make all the difference with such short range weapons

You can easily place them to the front, or rear, of the side doors.
I've also seen them on the top, and on the same side, but that doesn't bother me.
