Im looking to start a new SM army and the idea of purple marines really appeals to me. The Hawk Lords are an obvious choice, but I'm unsure how to go about painting them. How would you guys go about painting purple marines and what colours/tecniques would you use? I've got plenty of time on my hands so slow methods aren't an issue.
Thanks in advance
Dark purple: warlock purple with a badab black wash
Mucky purple:warlock purple with devlan mud wash
Bright purple: warlock purple and a highlight of 50/50 turquoise/skull white
Or just plain warlock purple!
These are only suggestions it is your choice.
Pretty much any "medium" tone purple (i.e. Liche Purple) can be shaded nicely with Leviathan Purple, Devlan Mud, Badab Black or even Asurmen Blue, all of which yield slightly different effects.
For highlighting, mix with Bleached Bone and go nuts!
thanks for the advice
I believe there is a book on how to paoint Space Marines.
It covers most Chapters, and that should help you also.
I just painted them recently. you would be surprised how easy they are to paint.
1. undercoat black
2. paint 'liche purple'
3. hi lights
4. 'leviathan purple' wash
5. details (your silvers, eyes, packs, skulls etc)
the hard way is pretty much the same but with more layers. the more layers of liche purple you but on the lighter it will get up until about the 4th layer. then if you want it lighter you will have to mix it.
move on the the next one
Wash: This landing is gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: [deadpan] Oh God, oh God, we're all going to die?
I'm doing an army now, I undercoat black, do a layer of hormaguant purple foundation paint, then paint them liche purple, I highlight with a mix of liche purple and skullwhite myself, then a badab black wash makes them look shiny!
Move forward and stay quiet brothers.
