Ok, so I know there is not a ton of people that play DE, but my buddy is one of them. I have not played in a number of years and am getting back into it. As I am writing up my army list all I can think about is the ridiculous number of dark lances that DE players can table. It makes we worried to table my rhinos, dreads, or anything else with an armor value for that matter.
Does anyone else have difficulty with DE dark lances (or DE in general)?
Thanks for the help.
I think your best protection would be a bit of cover, and some smoke launchers. Have a couple autocannons around, they should turn any DE vehicle into a steaming pile of scrap in one or two volleys.
Dark Lances are most dangerous to vehicles with higher armor, like your land raiders or vindicators. However razorbacks/rhinos and Dreads, they're the same as any old missile launcher.
The bonus for YOU is that Dark Eldar don't take hits. Two whirlwinds (with a bit of protection from assault) could very likely win a game for you just with large blast anti-cover templates. And really anything over S6 will tear their vehicles limb from limb. Assault cannons would be great, but they tend to be a bit short-ranged. Drop podded dreadnoughts, or deepstruck landspeeders with heavy flamers would work really well also.
Yeah, Dark Lances can be a pain. Playing a 4 way battle once, my LR going for the center obj. got popped turn one. You could literally hear the screech of tires as my army redirected to take out the Dark Eldar force. (and I still managed to win the game with a squad of Blood Claws)
Use cover and smoke and try to pop the transports. If you can focus fire, DE can be pretty fragile. Alzer is spot on with his advice.
As a marine player and a Dark Eldar player I get to enjoy both sides of this type of battle.
Dark eldar vehicles drop like flies when targeted and half the eldar in the vehicle will die in the explosion. If the Dark Eldar uses sniper squads and night shields it can be a little more dificult but is stiull manageable. Bolters can drop raiders for Emperors sake.
To counter this, there is nothing more satisfying when playing dark eldar than popping a land raider or 2 on the first turn
