Powerfist, so if I don't pop the vehicle with my combi-meltas (or if I run out) then I can punch it to death

Powerfist and no Combi unless the unit is running all Combis. Don't want to lose a PF and Combi in one go.

I run mine with a powerfist and no combi-weapon. I like the insurance of the powerfist in CC. If I don't take the powerfist I'd settle on a lightning claw next.

    Nothing exceptional.

If i have to rely on power fists (Or any power weapons) to get out of a jam, it means i didn't strategised correctly or that the dice Gods abandoned me. In any event its a waist of point since i deserve to lose.

They get the standard combi weapons ,if anything.

I usually give mine a powerfist, or if I need to shave some points, a power weapon minimum. As veterans, they all have one more attack than your average Space Marine anyway, so having a little extra kick in combat is always nice. Especially if you consider where the Sternguard are at their deadliest... rapid fire range.

Power fists are always a safe bet.

Maybe I'm wrong but , don't all sergeant also have 2 base attacks?

I'm not denying that rapid fire range is where you want those Sternguards, but in my opinion they're better off firing at that range. And one ought to plan a contingency plan near by to take over should your target survive one shooting phase.

For example, i tend to have a normal squad of marines (Sometimes Scout bikes) next to my sternguards , ready to charge in (Or shoot) , to protect my sternguards. Incidentally the Marines and Bikers have power fists.
