Im just creating a space marines army and have decided to use the white scars chapter.
I want to create an Honour guard using Kor'Sarro Khan, 1 standard bearer , 1 champ and an undecided number of Honour guards - is that viable?
I know the honour guards come with a bolter but they also have their chapter weapons and a pistol soam I right in thinking they get the extra attack for 2 CCW's? as well as one from the standard bearer and 2 from their spec they get 4 sttacks as standard and 5 when on charge is this correct?
IF i put them in a land raider they can charge straight from that I think - is that also correct?
Is it a good choice to have Kor'Sarro Khan as my chapter master with an honour guard squad?
I have read carying opinions as to the honour guards merit in an army - but they look so much fun and cool models so i really want one.
Can people give me any tips or advice on this type of squad and if my squad composition as layed out above is a good one and just tell me the positives and negatives of the squad.
Ok 1st point, you cannot take honor guard units if you just use Khan since he isnt a chapter master, only a company captain. If you want a unit of honor guard, then one of your hq choices must be a chapter master (either the generic entry or Calgar/Kantor using the "counts as" concept.
Honor gaurds do indeed get 5 attacks on the charge (2 base + 1 for 2CCW + 1 banner + Charge)
They can assault out of the front of any type of land raider due to the assault vehicle rule.
As mentioned above, Khan is not the chapter master of the white scars, merely a company captain, Im not 100% certain what the current name of the Scar's chapter master is but its bound to be around somewhere in which case you'd be perfectly justified in taking a chapter master and naming him that. As for Khan himself, being the only listed Scar's special character he's what you'd call a very fluffy choice (his history and wargear have been perfectly tuned to fit into the character of the army)
In regards to any tips or advice, the most important would be to consider how the unit will fit into the character of the army. For example in the case of the Scars, all units should ideally be mounted on bikes or have a transport vehicle. Looking at the marine 'dex at the moment i cant see an option to mount honour guard on bikes. You could of course simply give them a transport such as a rhino or razorback but that seems to me out of character that the chapter master (a man who is supposed to embody everything of the chapter's philosphy of warfare) would be stuck slogging around the battlefield. I personally would take Khan, mount him on his bike, give him a comand squad mounted on bikes, sit back and watch the carnage unfold since ive recently found from experiance, they can be lethal
Balthamal's information is basically correct, just want to add in some details:
I second the advice of not using honor guard for your White Scars army. If you want to play White Scars then play a very mobile force with either lots of bikes and speeders or lots of drop pods. Mechanized squads are okay too. But build your force around speed if you want a fluffy White Scars army.
thanks for the advice guys.
I have to say I am using white scars colour theme but I not want it to be a completely fluffy army 0 i just want as much fun as poss so I dont wanna count anything out.
So pedro kantos would be the best one to use as my HQ element of the Honour guard squad? Is there any point in having kar'sorro khan then?
I am gonna get lots of bikes etc - but I still want the odd element of something a bit fun - like the honour guard.
If you've got your heart set on including a squad of honor guard then I'd personally take a regular chapter master. This way you can equip him with whatever catches your eye and name him to your hearts content. That's not to say Kantor is a bad choice, far from it, just his gear and rules benefits a different play style to White Scars. As for Khan, take him. His combat tactics rules are one of the greatest assets any biker mounted army can hope for
To save money building your biker army, consider the Ravenwing boxed set. It is called the Dark Angels Ravenwing Battleforce, and all the Dark Angels stuff comes separtely inside the box (i.e. no DA iconography moulded onto the models) so any player can pick up a lot of bikes at a good price.

Again thanks for the tips - does anyone have anymore generic advice on what i should get in my army/ BAre in mind I not after a fluffy army - more a fun and effective one.
I will be fighting Eldar and Chaos as thats what my mates have and im pretty new to all this
Sternguard! They look cool, detailed models are always fun to paint as well. That aside, a powerful unit that can really dish out some pain. Most people drop pod them next to something they want dead. It usually happens.
i see the sternguard have special issue ammo and my codex is at home - what is the benefit of it please?
are they better at close combat or ranged?
Various special ammo provides the ability to ignore Sv4+ or even Sv3+ (the latter at a risk of killing your own models), ignore cover saves, shoot farther, or wound everything very easily regardless of toughness. It's great and very, very versatile.
