So I really like the look of multi-lasers on Sentinels...they look cool and they cost nothing. But are they any good? Let's hear it from the Usual Suspects...thumbs up or thumbs down?
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
They're as good as anything else on a Sentinel really. Lets face it, your not paying those points to kill stuff, your paying those points to throw a wrench into the enemies plans, and a dirt-cheap Multilaser sentinel does it fine - it can pop transports, maybe wound an MC, kill a few infantry, and more importantly (from my perspective) interpose itself between something scary charging your lines, and something valuable in yours.
I once forced a tyranid player to charge a squad of warriors (and nearly a fex too) into close combat with a single sentinel tying up a unit of hormaguants. That was far more worth the points than the multilaser, and no other weapon would really have made it more efficient (except maybe a heavy flamer, but eh)
TL;DR - Multilasers are fine, as are Heavy Flamers and Autocannons, but your really just buying it to distract the enemy, and if your lucky, hurt something of theirs.

Its a toughie, I'd ove to say thumbs up, I mean, what's not to like? Very cheap, large volume of S6 shots. You can just about fit a squadron of 3 in 100 points. Tarpits.
Yet I just look at it and think there are far better guns for it to take. Sorry. I wanna say thumbs up but can't.

I say they're good but for the slight upgrade amount I'd always squeeze Autocannons in. Sentinels are meant to Outflank and hurt armor from behind, S7 vs S6 is clear cut. You do give up a shot but add some range and AP if you do need to kill some light infantry.
Not bad either way.

I'd only take the multilaser if the sentinels are to be used as a distraction. I'd much rather take autocannon scout sentinels for the express purpose of shooting the bjesus out of some side armor, or take the more heavilly armored lascannon sentinels as heavy weapons platforms...they're much better than lascannon squads in terms of LOS and survivability. But multilasers...meh. You get more than enough multilasers with your chimeras. If you need multilasers at all (multilasers are better than heavy bolters and even autocannons against certain armies).

Multilasers put wounds on targets but not much else, and most IG armies don't have trouble causing wounds. I prefer missile launchers and lascannons on my armored Sentinels. The extra elevation lets me shoot over infantry without granting the enemy a cover save, making the low-AP weapons a better choice.

I like 'em. I've got 2 units of 3 Armoured Sentinels with Lasers and they work well. They can shred anything from Rhino's down just through sheer volume of shots. Plus they're still wounding Marines on 2's which is nice. Against Orks they're brilliant as their relative low str can still shred all but the battlewagon and the AP6 still gets through their armour.
They're cheap and useful and they have a place in my army. Plus with 4 chimeras thats 30 str6 shots coming the enemies way.
From what I've seen, Sentinels w/lasers are effective at what they do, plus they're really cheap to boot considering what they can do to opponents. However I've been thinking about maybe getting 2 units of 3x armored sentinels w/plasma cannons but I'm still considering if its worth the money and if they are even worth the points.
After Lascannons, I like Multilasers next best. I would way rather have three S6 shots than two S7 ones.
The other good thing is that they are underrated by enemy players. Oh, just a Multilaser............. let's leave it and worry about other more "juicy" targets.
