Would extra armor help vehicles in squadrons?
There are a number of vehicles I'd like in my force, so would squadrons be a logical choice? I figured, with so many squadrons, this should give some survivability.
Would a squadron of three hellhounds, with a hull HF, be effective against most troops?
Thanks in advance

1. Read the Vehicle Squadron rules in the rule book to answer your question.
2. It's up to your own taste. I like to squadron. There are up sides and down sides.
3. Yeah that would be able to put the hurt out on any kind of normal troop, including MEQs. 3 flame templates that wound on 2s will force a lot of saves.

Extra Armor is useless on squadrons, they reduce stunning to shaken anyway.
I don't squadron unless I have no slots open, overkill and immobilized = destroyed just isn't worth it otherwise.
3 Hellhounds seems like a bit much, running 3 solo gives you more flexibility.

Extra armour does help. Unfortunatly it is far to expensive for what it does so is generally a waste of points.
Squadrons, don't squadron unless you have too. It has good points like stunned going down to shaken but being killed on immobalised is just bad.
If you have to have squadrons, like you've already got two other Fast Attack choices, then i wouldn't take 3. Two should be enough to cope with most things.
The real thing about EA...is that you cannot stun a squadron of Russes.
And if you absoulity had to have it....you should put it on the one you think would survive...hence once it becomes a single Russ you can still avoid being stunned.
Long story shot......no extra armor, unless you cant do anything else with the points...
Pintle mounted storm-bolter might even be better....at least you could maybe kill someone with it.
The best thing is that you can hide one russ behind somthing and shoot with the other, and still be giving yourself a save....
Imagine if someone had a full squadron of russes and made them into a triangle and then popped smoke with the front one...hid the second behind the smoky one..and shot the third.....all the whlie you rotating the russed and popping smoke.
Super-fake....but not full proof.

Hellhounds are effective against anything non-TEQ or -MC but the hull flamer negates their primary advantage of having ranged templates.
I find that squadrons of 2 vehicles works well, particularly for Russes. It gives just the right amount of firepower redundancy to push through armor/cover saves and survives damage very well. Russes in particular rarely take more than one penetration per volley of ranged firepower. If you put the penetrations on the tank closest to the enemy then it's a good thing that it's destroyed instead of immobilized. The enemy doesn't get any assault movement and doesn't auto-hit with powerfists--just waits for its next turn while the surviving Russ angles for a good shot.
