Hello all. I am normally an eldar and tryanid player, but have been looking into getting into space marines with a DIY chapter. I want to use the chapter, the Crimson Paladins, just because the name sounds so cool and the color choice I have picked out looked quite nice. I wanted to base them off of the black templars, and use their codex rules for the army. It seems very fluffy with the paladin righteous zeal thing. However, I don't know if the templars are still a good list. Or even if they are due for an update. I would hate to start this force and use the templar rules, then have the new codex come out in a year and not like the force any longer. Anyone know if the templars are still good?

Tyranids Hive Fleet Oceanus (reset for 5th)

They're definitely not bad. I use them as the alternate ruleset for my own DIY chapter, and my track record with them has been about even.
They are still a solid force, they do have some wonky rules thanks to the fact the codex is a 4th ed one (target priority comes to mind) but all in all they are as good as any typical marine force (though don't go down the shooty route).
I have not had the chance to play Black Templars as of yet. I have played against them a great deal however do to the fact that my Monday night 40k buddy plays them almost exclusively now...And come to think about it, he used to be a Eldar player as well.
The Black Templars may not get all of the fun toys that vanilla marines get, but they do get some wacky special rules like Righteous Zeal and those crazy Vows.
I have seen many different army builds and like most marines they tend to weather the storm pretty well. At times it may seem that they are possesed by the Blood God, but at the end of the day I think the Blood Angels have them beat when it comes to hand to hand.
