Hey all, been tyring to think of ways to get some thunderwolf cav in my army that'd be ok for tournaments (i know i could use Canis but he's expensive and i don't much like the idea of marines riding wolves).
Anyway i've some up with something but before i go and spend on it i'd like to know if you guys think it'd be acceptable in a tourny.
Here it is:
Take 1 60mm Base
Add one space wolf biker (wolf the bike out a bit with furs, and maybe even put a wolfs head as a whell guard on the front)
Add 2 wolves (i plan to use goblin wolf rider mounts) and a fine chain from their collars, held by the wolf on the bike.
Of course i wouldn't put the bolters on the bike.
Think i could get away with it in a tourny, if i was very clear about what it is?
As long as the base isn't any bigger than the standard model and it's roughly similar dimensions for True LoS purposes, I'd have no problems. If GW refuses to make models for units people want to use (Demon Princes?) there's little room to whine.
Yeah he's longer and taller than a Biker. You could make the Bike on top of some rocks, doing a wheelie etc. to make up for that though. A raised base would probably solve most of your problems.
I've been converting my old wulfen over to 60 mm bases. I put 2 on a scenic base to represent a 2 wound model. My feelings are this, GW isn't making a thunderwolf mount and wulfen are a GW made product, unlike alternative wolf models from other companies, so if a local store or tourney woudn't accept the converted wulfen model then I woudn't want anything to do with them. Half this hobby is modeling/painting and the other half is the game. GW should encourage their customers to be creative and model characters/units that they do not provide since this game is supposed to be about having fun.
the wulfen idea is a pretty sweet idea, like it a whole lot better than this guy around my place sticking bikers on goblin wolf riders.
And to the OP: I'd be fine with that, I think it'll open up some sweet base work, put them up on stones with snow in between the crevices.
