Hello everyone, I'd like some pointers on a Grey Knightless army. It would basically run down like this:
Inquisitor Lord with Retinue (in Land Raider?)
3 Death Cult Assassins or another Inquisitor (which to choose?)
TROOPS (how many Chimeras or Rhinos do I want, and what special weapons?):
Now, I know the Dreadnought are called Grey Knight Dreadnoughts, does that mean I can still take them, as well as the Land Raider? What kind of advice can yall give on this? Will 60 Stormtroopers do much?
The Dreadnaught, because it has Grey Knight in the name, falls under any rules affecting anything Grey Knight, (shrouding, radical-restriction, etc.) and you need a GK hero to take the GK dreadnaught.
If you wouldn't mind mixing your forces up with some non-DH-list units, an infantry platoon or two of Imperial Guardsmen would be grand support to the stormtroopers, particularly if the ST units are chimmie-mounted.
If you're going for straight-on-DH-List army, stormtroopers will have to do. As for the other stuff:
For the Inquisitor, he rides a normal Land Raider, from what I remember, so the GK rule doesn't deny him this. But unless the game is big points, (more than 1,500,) I wouldn't suggest getting such a point-sink anyways.
With only a 5+ save and being plainly CC, death-cult assassins aren't all that wonderful. Put their points towards something more productive.
Daemonhosts, while tricky, could be worth it. Same with the Callidus, only she's more likely to be succesful.
Stormtrooper squads should have a few vehicles, preferrably the chimera to captialize on the extra firepower. As for special weapons... PLASMA PLASMA PLASMA! And maybe a melta and grenade launcher to support....
Orbital Strike rarely gets it's points back, and it's completely dependent on the terrain setup.
Your army basically depends on two things: borrowed Imperial Guardsmen and stormies. With that in mind, go for a shooty HQ.
Every whisper of the future from the Warp speaks of a hundred battles lost, a thousand lives devoured and a million enemies born. -- Inquisitor Lord Babel
Pinned Daemonhunters Tactica on this board has a lot of GK-less ideas as well. Read that for Inquisitor/Inquisitor Lord ideas.
As for IST, since that's the bulk of your army, you'll need them to do a lot of different things. I'd send two units in rhinos with meltaguns (and vet's with combi-meltas) to take out armor, 2-4 units with plasma, and the rest with grenade launchers. As many transports as you can will help (especially the firepower on Chimeras - don't forget H/K missiles!. Also, consider tooling a few Vets up for counter-assaults. Power armor and a power weapon or thunder hammer makes for a nasty suprise, especially when the "defenseless" squad's transport is popped!
No dreadnoughts, you need a GK hero to use those (and to use GK Land Raiders - you can still use regular ones for the Inq, but you can't give them upgrades like Blessed or Psycannon Bolts).
I'd also drop the Daemonhosts for a second Elite Inq unit or more DCA.
Grey Knight Dreadnoughts don't get any of the Grey Knight special rules. The exception to this is the Aegis, which they can get if they have the Blessed upgrade.
There's an angel on my shoulder, in my hand a sword of gold.
I used to think that GK Dreads got shrouding and all those other rules as well, but when you read DH codex, page 20, under the heading "'Grey Knights' Terminology", it says otherwise. No Shrouding for GK Dreads, as cool as that would be ^_^
