After just seeing the star wars movies again, and then noticing a nice paint scheme in an old white dwarf about witch hunters, I'm seriously considering a storm trooper army. Done before, I know, but I still like the idea of Imperial strom troopers looking like... well, imperial storm troopers. White colour scheme and everything.

So, in 1500 points, I could include 4 Trooper squads in chimeras, Command squad in chimera (with carapace armour, just to keep the theme going but paying massively for it), 2 Russies and a vanquisher. Ideas anyone before I waste my money?

mech Troopers might come out a bit small. The main problem is the lack of heavy weapons. Get some heavy weapon platoons and like get the carapace doctrine to like sort mimic a stormtrooper

i would say take yarrick to represent vader ^_^
aside from that i do use storm troopers for my army.
Doctrines:
Grenadeirs
Carapace armor (for command squad, rough riders and veteran squad)
Rough Riders
Hardened fighters (to boost the ST WS)
Storm Trooper

i give all 4 squads of ST chimeras (no need for mechanized doctrine) as well as my command and veterans. I take the rough riders because they are magnificant on the charge (i regularly play against BA so getting the charge is excellent). To represent their carapace armor i would say get WHFB empire knights and use extra IG gun sprues and give them pistols and a com pack for the future looking effect. I also take 2 Leaman russ tanks and thats it.
Thats my army i hope it makes some insperation for yours. Its also rather fluff. My army is from a world that loves heavy infantry and therefore makes as well as buy as much carapace as possible. Its a tradition on my world eversince before the emperor found us. We were fighting amongs one another with spears and heavy bronze armor. We have fought at armmaggedon and the EoT as well as a number of other worlds.

hope this helps.

Oh and if you want star wars storm trooper looking models then i would go with the new karskin storm trooper armor. (my tau has a clone trooper color scheme with the ethereal looking like a jedi, my IG looks more like now adays military mixed with the karskan look but i am thinking of repainting them. I might get my hands on some steel leagion just because they look cool)

again hope this helps.

you got to ask your self, how much effectivness am i willing to sacrifice for fluff/cool ??

to do this army, you'd have to sacrifice quite a bit.

Hmmm, i'm not convinced about taking hvy weapon platoons, doesn't really fit in with the army style. ots of melta/plasma was the idea. And yeah, the model I stole the paint scheme off was a karskan. Mebbe using lots of commissars to be the evil empire people? I could reduce it to 8 troops per squad and get an extra squad in, i've realised i was about 70 pts short. Could make the commander just a senior officer, strip back some equipment and take a hellhound maybe.

If you take a Jr Officer with the Honors-whateveritis you effectively get a Heroic officer for less points.

One thing u must always, ALWAYS remember is to never not take storm troopers for your gaurd army. They can make a difference, so always take em whenever u can, and put em in a transport like a valkerie or chimera. And have at least 3 squads of em.

It's always nice to have a unit that has a balistics skill and armor save of 4

You may want to consider using the Steel Legion Sgt. model for your officer (perhaps some converting).

I've always wanted to give a Chimera a black and white paint job (like a police tank)

Good luck, atleast you will look cool.

well...i would use ig with caripace (i seriously think that the karskain would fit the part the best) OR consider this: many empire soldiers do not wear st uniforms, many have cadian type outfits (in grey and black and stuff) so you could use them as your soldiers (WITHOUT caripace) and then do grenaiders to include more st's then usual. you could make your command groups look like imperial officers easily. take heavy weapons in the platoon...its totally fluffy, the empire has all sorts of stuff like that. to represent vader/sith use an inq lord- or better yet a gm ( you might consider termi honours if you want him to look smaller). this would be a VERY fluffy option (using dh). the psyker stuff fits and the armour would. the retinue stuff fits-vader always has a weird body guard and people around him. personally i would go with gm with termi honours (or not it would look cool either way) and a gk squad with him converted and painted like the guard he always has with him (for vader). the emp would so be a psyker inq-scourging fits the bill. (oh but remember vader with the floating torture device, how like a familiar+st body guard......) .......i digress, point it it would fit perfectly, throw in a few sentinels (so very empire) and a tank. straight out of star wars...man...i want to do that......
