Not one to let her traitor guard list go ( Black Crusade World Event ), I'm trying to work on a list using the new codex.
I suppose I could really go-to-town with it, but I don't want to hear, "You just made a traitor list to have a chaos valkyire!"
Any advice on making a balanced force to act chaotically? Sneaky tactics should be at home most here.
And no, I'm not going to try to work in chaos marks
Thanks in advance.
PS - I plan to be using the renegade kits from FW, and the chaos vehicle bitz from GW.
I don't see why not. You could even ally in Daemonhunters to represent your favorite Chaos Marine legion as the master of the slaves.
Besides, what's wrong with a Chaos Valk?
Call it a Helltalon and you're set
Traitor IG is definitely doable, it's all up to what you want. It's not always a rabble of nutters, you can have well equipped and disciplined traitor regiments too.
For example, see Cain's last stand, they are attacked by rebel units that still maintain all their old guard fightstyles and habits.
Penal legion could represent cultists who are a little more indisciplined.
Straken could represent an inspiring warlord.
You could even have a rogue psyker based list.

I considered this at one stage, too.
I was thinking about self inposing rules when creating the list, just to enhance the fact they are traitors and no longer have access to training and resupply:
Things like only using combined infantry squads, no plasma weapons and only using the older variants of the Leman Russ.
This was really only stuff I was thinking for fluff though, and nothing more.
Space Wolves: Great Company of Berek Starkiller, 3700 pts.
Imperial Guard: XII Cytherian Regiment: 1400 pts.
15 years experience, numerous other models not fielded.
why would fluff deny you plasma weapons? it seems to me that they are a very old technology on the contrary. the plasma russ for example is said to be one of the oldest designs.
No plasma or Russ variants?
Ever heard of the Dark Mechanicus?
Every loyal guard list could also be a traitor guard list. There aren´t any unfluffy lists. With guard- loyal or not- everything is possible. Even though I don´t like 2000 pts or less with 2 CCS.
Just change the colours!

If you read some of the Black Library books, the IW control several entire planets in the Eye of Terror where they forge weapons, do research, and other nasty things. So this is the perfect opportunity to field some slave/traitor guard units with chaosy/demon versions of IG vehicles. Grey Knights could represent a couple of units of elite Marines directing the slaves. While Strakken, Yarrick, and Harker could be modeled as Astartes leading regular human troops and advisors.
Sure, they don't have access to the wider resources of the Imperium anymore, so hard-to-get items like Power Armor will be more highly prized (hence fewer "Marine" troops). But they're not bound by the Imperium's limitations either. They can be more creative and combine their former know-how with the fruits of the warp.
Also nothing states that there are no new traitor's, or older traitor armies aquire new tanks/weapons threw the spoils of war.
The one question I would have is if a traitor guard army would be able to take chaos ally's the same as IG can take Gray Knights/standard SMs?
