Hello all! I've recently returned to my first games-workshop love and have found myself a little confused as to what works well anymore. Was just wondering if any of you seasoned vets out there have any recomendations for a list composition.
As of now I have:
New catachan CCS
6 squads of guardsmen (10 each with sergeant, vox, and flamer)
3 sentinels with flamers or multilasers
3 lascannon teams (2 with interchangeable autocannons)
6 mortar teams
6 missile launcher teams
1 heavy bolter team
3 plasma gunners
4 heavy flamers
captain with boltgun
captain with boltgun and powerfist
I know its a long list of stuff, but if anyone has any comments at all I would appreciate it.
Thanks ahead of time for your help!
No vehicles eh? That'll work fine.
Foot Guard can do plenty well, but you need to do it right.
You need to limit enemy mobility and swamp them with bodies/bullets. At range, autocannons and TL lascannons work best at nailing enemy transports, while meltas perform exceptionally well up close. S10 ordnance is always good to have along too. Once the vehicles go, you need to deal with all the bad guys who just lost their rides. Massed fire, templates, flamers, and even combat can take them down.
Straken turns a normal wimpy IG army into something awesome, Orks that don't suck He's important, so protect him well.
-Big blobs of Guardsmen backed by Straken and loaded with power weapons, commissars, and maybe the odd Priest
-Massed autocannons to nail armor, S10 ordnance or meltas to go after big stuff
-Lots of bodies, and I mean lots

Also thanks -me- for all the great input in my earlier thread, this one is relevant to mine too.
My squads will all be equiped with plasma guns to deal with marines though... but my list is looking pretty similar to yours.. I'll have 9 mortars instead of 6 though, 9 lascannons instead of 3 and 9 autocannons rather than 0. 0 missile launchers to his 6. No plasma guns... have those in my squads rather than his flamers.
And skjall I don't want to take tanks in my army either but maybe we should include a basilisk? or maybe even a demolisher.. s10 ordanance is kinda hard to pass up, seems to be one of guards strengths.. A bassie is more like a self propelled artillery peice than a tank anyway.. would fit well with catachans.
maybe we should, imperial guard armor is so tempting.. but I like the idea of a line of cannon's, plus im modeling my army with a little WW2 flavour.
Straken is awesome for infantry armies. He is hard to take down, and can really dish out the pain. Harker is quite good too, and Marbo is also really good. In an infantry army, sentinels are really handy. They are fluffy for catachans, and give you armoured support, mobility, and tough gun platforms.
==Me== is hardly exaggerating. You will need a lot of men. About 100 should do the trick, with some veterans to take objectives and snipe the enemy.
I wouldn't go for a basalisk. The minimum range can be a real pain, and there are better tanks to take. For an infantry army, hellhounds and demolishers are what I'd go for. But if you want an SP gun, a Medusa would be a really good choice.

was thinking just maybe the basic leman russ would be enough, 14 front armor and ap 3 battle cannon. maybe a demolisher with not too many upgrades too; just don't like the short range.
