So I just picked up a catachan battleforce a couple days ago. Now, this is my first experience with IG and I was hoping you guys could give me some help. So my first question is just because I have catachans doesn't mean I can't get cadian troops too right? Also, any pointers on what to get next? Just in case you were wondering battleforce:
-command squad (platoon)
-2 infantry squads
-heavy weapons team which i made all lascannons
-sentinel which i gave lascannon
thanks so much guys!
Make more HW platforms from the other bits in the sprue. Autocannons would be best. Just trace out some card board, and use only one gunner on each base.

There's nothing to stop you mix/matching cadians and catachans, I've done it in my IG army. As for what to get next, what sort of army are you wanting? IG do a vast number of subtypes of army with footsloggers, mech, artillery, outflankers, airborne cavalry to name a few.

On the sentinels and heavy weapons I've found it a great thing to magnetize them to easily swap out the guns. For now I'd say more troops and then look at what heavy choices you'd like to field.
Yup mixing catachans and cadians can look good. You so far have one platoon so look into a second troops choice either vets or another platoon for a standard list. If you want all infantry get another battle force and a box for main command. If you mix the heavy weapons into your squads you could easily build the main command out of spare bits.
As said it all depends on what army you want. Standard balanced forces usually include a russ or two. Some vets and a few other bits and bobs like a bassie or more sents vets or stormies in a valk or chimera. That sorta stuff can help. As also said magnetising or making the weapons on sents swappable helps. Personally I like multilas on sents though it's personnal preference.
Your best bet is to post up a list in the army list section and get specific advice then go from there.
Hope that helps and good luck!
