sorry for the noob question; still considering buying an army and don't have a codex yet, plus with the news of a new codex coming soon it may be pointless to buy one.
Is this possible? and if possible is it viable? would be fairly easy to make them look t-34ish which would fit the theme of my army well.
Thanks in advance.
New codex? We just got a new codex. No idea what you are talking about.
Autocannons would be very nice on chimeras indeed. Unfortunately it's not happening anytime soon. You could play with Imperial Armour rules, there is an autocannon chimera option in there but you need your opponent's permission to use it and it isn't tournament legal.
Another question.. If I mod a chimera with an autocannon.. can I count it as a multilaser still?
We got our new codex last March. So the next one may be out in late 2015 or early 2016.
I think you're probably safe modeling autocannons and calling them multi-lasers as long as you're consistent according to the "counts as" rules.
Edit: Raaaveeeendoooooove!!! Um, beat me to it.

Thanks to both you guys; you don't have to compete for my affection
But while we're on the subject of chimera weapons it is generally considered a good idea to go with a single heavy flamer. You can only fire one weapon on the move so unless you plan on sitting still all game, (some chimeras do this, give them two ranged weapons) take a heavy flamer. The only point of taking two heay flamers is in case of weapon destroyed results, it's generally considered a bad idea.
