yeah i have been collecting marines for a year or to but havent played with them much and every time i play aginst some one who knows wut they are doing compleatly whoops me. i dont thinkits my lists because the are good lists I usaly have ok model counts for marines. i can figure it out.
It's because of the chicken wings you ate last night!!!
How are we supposed to figure it out when you don't post your list, or the opponents you usaul fight, or how long you've bin playing. If it's your 2nd battle then that's why you lost. but I need for information to answer.

Well, if you're asking for advice based on guessing what your problem is...
Don't be afraid to move into enemy fire if that's the best way to get the most out of your own firepower.
If you're fighting a shooty army, get close. If you're fighting a combat-army, stay back. You have skill levels of 4 on both tactics.
Don't stock up on expensive units. Remember that a terminator team or 2-3 tactical teams cost roughly the same. Body count counts. And stay away from Land Raiders for low-point games. The only one worth getting is the Land Raider Crusader, in my opinion.
Don't overstock your HQ, and unless you're playing more than 2,000 points, stick to only one.
If your marines are going to be shooty, concentrate points on heavy weapons with secondary points on special weapons. If they're assaulty, go for non-rapid-fire special weapons, and try to stay away from heavy weapons, (except for anti-tank support.)
Take advantage of your bolters in 4th edition. It's two shots while on the move within 12", but you can't charge afterwards, so figure out your chances in close-combat before blasting them 2 shots per model when you could also charge.
Well, that's all from the top of my head. Hope I helped somehow.
Every whisper of the future from the Warp speaks of a hundred battles lost, a thousand lives devoured and a million enemies born. -- Inquisitor Lord Babel
Your answer is right there. No matter what suggestions you read, until you practice, and gain experience, someone who has more experience has a better chance to beat you. It's like chess. It's very easy to know all the rules, but if you don't practice you don't get very good. If you want to get good at the tactics of wargames, play more wargames.Originally posted by Fallout_soldier@Sep 4 2004, 197

My biggest advice is to not stick to doing 1 thing exclusively. In my experience an army needs to do 3 things DECENTLY in order to win battles on a wide variety of missions (Im assuming here you play missions from all 4 sections and not simply play cleanse until eternity)
A. Assault - Without this you wont be able to really mop up the enemy or get close to objectives
B. Fire support - You need stuff to tank out tanks from long range or mid range weapons to cover as you advance
C. Mobility - You need *some* fast troops whether they be jump pack or in rhinos or deep striking, they're a must
Yes I understand that a lot of people love their l33t shooty armies that rox0r and all that BS. In order to form a strategic fighting force that will win you a large majority of battles you want those 3 things. There is a reason the newer armies (Read: Necrons, Tau, Dark Eldar) are HARD to play, it's because they lack one of those three things while the old armies (Read: SM, CSM, Eldar, Orks, Tyranids, IG) have a MUCH larger win:loss ratio
Anyway thats just a perspective coming from a hardcore player I suppose, I play to win usually although my opponents fun factor is highly important as I like to keep opponents
Special Note - Im sure someone is gonna say that DE have all of those, and yes they do but they have less armor than my toyota does therefore they die even EASIER than orks sadly. Thus while they qualify in those 3, they just die
good points all of you. I do need to play more and stay away form landraiders there so tempting. please check out my army list inm the army list section.
space marines are the most basically adept to fighting anything and with thier 3+ save you can make mistakes. myabe it was just luck of the dice or something or maybe it was an army you weren't expecting to play and so therefoe couldn't counter it.
also just keep playing you will win and besides winning isn't everything just have fun
Yeah i don't win a good number of times because i just love trying huge gambles and just generally screwing around. On the plus side, lots of people seem to love playing with me extreme fun > unbeatable player.
