My friends and I were playing a game and they asked me why I gave veteran sisters books and I couldn't think of a good reason. A lot of lists I see people make on these forums have every single veteran and HQ take books of St. Lucius. So, I get giving Canonesses books for their Ld 10, but why give veterans books, too?
The squads that take veterans would have Ld 9 anyway unless the veteran in a squad gets martyred, but you wouldn't want to martyr a veteran when the unit is still mostly intact because you lose your ability to use faith powers on that unit the following turn (unless the whole unit is faithful, but that only applies to seraphim and celestians, I'm mainly talking about regular battle sisters, dominions, and retributors).
Am I missing something here? I'm a relatively new player so go easy on my lack of knowledge.
Because it's unmodified leadership and so it will never go below 9 on a VSS... ever. For example, you loose combat by 4, normally you would have to make a Ld test at Ld 5, but with the BoSL you get to make it at 9.
40k: Silver Angels of Our Martyred Lady 7/2/3 - Daemons of the Great Squiggle! 3/1/0
Fantasy: Windhost of Athel'Loren 2/0/0 - Daemons of Another Great Squiggle! 0/0/0
Warmahordes: Legion of Everblight (Absylonia)
for 5 points that effect is supreme.
...and you do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around, thats what its all about.
some of the guys around here call it the Book of St. Stubborn.
it's good kit, and has a radius, which means units within 6" can ALSO test at the Vet's unmodified Ld.
so take that necron pariahs, and take that Psyker battle squad. nyeh.

Actually, I have a much better solution for psycher battle squads...Hammer of Witches. The D6 nearest psychers take a perils of the warp test. Wait, but in lieu of taking PotW, PBSs execute D3 squad members for EACH perils test...ONE Hammer effectively kills D6xD3 battle psychers...gutting the squad on turn one.
My inquisitor lady ALWAYS takes Hammer and Purgatus. The look on my opponent's face when Eldrad's leadership went to 7 was PRICELESS. NERF...first, he's rolling on LD7 for his umpteen billion powers per turn, then I get to use my PH at LD10?
