So, with the new release of the Tyranid codex anyone got some ideas on how to deal with them? I haven't played against them yet but one of the people who I play with just got the new 'dex (and a mawloc) and is going to be proxying evreything under the sun.
So, suggestions? What to take, what not to take. What can you expect to see? What should you fear? What should you not? How to counter some of the better units. Experiences battling the 'Nids. Pretty much anything. For the education of me and other players. For many glorious victories against the Great Devourer.
I'll start off by saying that Zoanthropes are some mean mothers... A strength 10 lance... Enough said about that.
Watch out for Gargoyles. They are nasty and should be shot out of the sky ASAP! Make it double time if they have Adrenal Glands and toxic sacs.
Trygon's should be killed the turn they pop up, don't let them have a heyday with your army. Apart from having a high toughness, they have no invulnerable save so they are relatively easy to take out with melta guns, plasma guns, lascannons, and power weapons.
Now that Tyranids can drop pod, a whole new style of list seems to be comming into play (or at least where I play it has). This list usually has Zoanthropes in the drop pod, with a walking Nid Zilla, and outflanking Geenstealers. All I can say is that list is mean, and hard to win against.
Another popular list seems to be the Swarm/Nidzilla list. Basically take as many Guants/ Gargoyles as you can while still fielding 3-5 MC's. Battle tactics here are really a no brainer. shoot the swarms first! The Monsterous creatures are crap in combat compared to 20 guants or gargoyles.
Now for some Grey Hunter advice. You want to start out acting like you are playing vanilla marines, set up a wall of marines laying down bolter fire. If you are usually playing a mech army (And you should be) use your rhinos to block them, and then next turn assault. You do not want to be on the recieving end of a Tyranid assault at any time.
Thats all for now... May be back with some more stuff when it comes to me!
The Wolf time is upon us!
Rep for the Rep God! Positive for the Positive Throne!
Armies: Space Wolves, Imperial Guard, Emperors Children, Necrons, Eldar
I don't play Nidz on a regular basis but it would seem to me when your up against a swarm to just take out the 3-5 MC's as then you are up against a bunch of non-fearless, LD6 models.Another popular list seems to be the Swarm/Nidzilla list. Basically take as many Guants/ Gargoyles as you can while still fielding 3-5 MC's. Battle tactics here are really a no brainer. shoot the swarms first! Nevermore Chapter: 6200 pts; 97/49/11; Longest Streak: 9 Wins/4 Losses; Nearing Completion
Ok. What about the special characters? Doom of Mi'lanti, Old one eye, Swarm Lord. How good are they?
You want to charge smaller faster survivable units into big swarms and then they must rap round meaning the mc can't get to you. I played a game yesterday where my 3 one man thunderwolves each charged a squad of 30 guants before they could get a shot off. The grey hunters then owned each squad at a time. Completley ignored his tmc's and just killed all the scoring units then outmanouuvered him. The only big thing I killed was a trygon(on the turn it came up.)
Oh and just instant kill the doom of malanti. T4 ftw lol.
SW is one of the strongest anti-nids armies out there. Nothing to be afraid of - just some bugs.
The Rune Priest are one of the units which are great against nids.
- JOTWW against all his low I bugs; jutst watch as his expensive carnefixs, tervigon and tyrannofex melt away.
- MH against hords.
- LL against everything
- nullifiy his pshichic abilities with the RW
