When I came back to playing 40k and seeing the new codex for the guard, I saw the armoured sentinels and I'm wondering does anyone actually includes them in an army list? Since I would perfer the scout sentinel more but does the armoured come in handyat points? and is it worth taking a plasma cannon on it, seems just a waste a points or a cheap way spam plasma cannons?
Really to me thats their only good thing is that they can get plasma cannons. Other then that i dont like them, you get alot more out of a vendetta in terms of fast attack choices. But if armored sentinels werent a fast attack choice then i would probably have a few but since they are not, go with vendettas.
I do like the vendettas but to me they just seem to a high priority target compared to sentinel, but I do I have to agree wtih you more about vendetta makes a better a choice to pick
See, i love Sentinels of all shape and form and it's a rare list that doesn't have them in there. The AV12 is pretty durable to most antitank weaponry and in assault AV12 is just nasty. Even Marines with Power fists need a 5 to penetrate so you can bog Marine units down in combat for turns if not the whole game. Sometimes stopping that unkillable Death Guard unit in combat with Sentinels they can't hurt is rather handy.
As for weaponry. Keep them cheap. Autocannons and Multilasers are all you really need. They can take down hoards, put wounds on MCs and take out light vehiles. Personally i avoid lascannons as they hardly hit a barn door and Plasma Cannons are just silly points. Missile Launchers are just Rubbish.
I've got 6 with Multilasers in my 1500pt gaming army and they save my hide in pretty much every game, blocking assaults, taking down transports and putting wounds on things i don't like.
Plus having 6 armour clad walkers striding through fire bringing the Emperors wrath upon the enemies of Mankind just looks cool.
you make a good point also, I guess I need to use them more often so I can get a feel for them
I like Multilasers best in squads of three. Good at popping Rhinos and better at wounding troops.....a lot of wounds. Because of their medium strength these tend to be forgotten until the damage is done. Multilasers are a lot like Punishers, under valued by the enemy because of the stats but an overachiever because of the number of shots.

I use sentinals in two ways:
Scout sentinal, outflanks and heavy flamers stuff (vehicles)before charging.
Armoured sentinal, sits in my lines, normally behind a tank etc and shoots a autocannon at things / two shoot a lascannon.
The AV 12 will be used in combat, in 5th ed even if you're immobalised. Only frag grenade armed troops can't touch you (or say eldar pathfinders, new tyranid little bugs), and krak grenades only glance on a 6. Normal damage rolls too (as compared to the +1 for scout sents)
I appear to have a glitch. sorry.

I sometimes enjoy using Creed to outflank a squad of 3 Armored Sentinels. Best of both worlds!

It is tough to give up a fast attack choice, but other than that these are great units. They look wonderful in their new kit too. Scouts are tempting but being open-topped AV10 is too fragile and they miss out on one of the best things about the new armoured sentinel is that because of its AV12 it actually dropped on the target priority list because chimera, valkryies, and hellhounds are more threatening. With AV10 you open yourself up to many move types of guns.
I'm in the process of buying two for my forces. I'm planning to keep them either in reserves or in cover to bolster my lines against assault troops or hunt light armor if few combat troops get close.
