Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hail Sons of Russ,
Now then, at the moment i've got a 205 point wolf lord (twin claws, termie, saga of bear and necklace), this along with my idea of a 232 point wolf guard retinue (termies, 1x twin claws, 1x claw & shield, 1x AC & claw, 1x TH/SS), all in a pod. This after a few discussions with fellow gamers was a little too much of a point sink for the amount of wounds you end up getting there for have you any ideas of how to spin another HQ + retinue for around the same point cost in a transport. (preferable not termies (wanting to explore other options) or thunder wolf cavalry (no dedicated model))
Personally my mind springs to a wolf priest with runic armour and a squad (9x) of wolf guard in PA with 4 power weapons, and two plasma pistols between them. Tots up to around 387 inc rhino. The unit would be being used in a1500pt game with 3 GH packs (with WG pack leaders, rhinos (2 x melta, 1 x plasma squad)) add in 2 long fang packs (2 ml, 2 lc) & (4 hb &razorback with H, also a wolf scout squad with pw and melta and bombs.
Objective for the unit to to provide a major headache for units such as nob bikers in CC, the prospective of bezerkers + lord with deamon weapon & big ork boss gaz with a mega nob retinue.
ANY AND ALL comments welcome along with the enevitable 'why did you give a lord saga of the bear?' - answer - i liked the idea of a 'ard as nails lord who would walk out of the other side of any combat/not be aced by a lascannon/fist etc.

Your guys in power armour won't do the jop you want then to do.I woould chuck in a storm shield+power fist and possibly with a wolf priest?
First, it doesn’t make sense to have terminators on a Drop Pod. They can deep strike and you’re just giving an extra KP and gaining no extra mobility.
I play Ragnar as my HQ, along with a unit of regular WG with 3 power weapons and Arjac upgrade. They tear apart anything they touch and among their feats, they destroyed a massive Ork Nob squad with Boss and Banner on a single game turn (about 3/4 on their charge, the rest on the Ork player turn). They cost way more than your 450 points but are very effective.
Exploring other options, a WG squad of 9 men with 3 power weapons, one TH/SS and one PF runs about 280 points without transport. Adding a Wolf Priest with runic armor, necklace and saga of the bestslayer gets you around 420 points and should be very, very deadly.
I purposively left the transport option out. You can choose between a rhino and a drop pod and I personally wouldn’t place them on a drop pod and send them at the enemy face, but that’s my style. I’d give them the Rhino and in safe distance, ready for counter attack or support when needed.
the drop pod for the termies is present becasue i didn't think space wolf termies could deep strike
the wolf priest squad looks good... very good, are we in essence saying the use of plasma pistols is a bad idea in such a squad?
counter assult unit sounds great aswell
thanks to all for the comments and please keep them comming

Hmmm.... I don't have my codex here with me, but if I recall correctly, there is nothing in the codex preventing SW terminators to deep strike.
However, fluff wise, there is a note stating they rather not. But that's fluff and not a rule.
Regarding plasma pistols, it is again a matter of preference. If you have the points, why not? It is risky, but what isn't in 40K?
At the bottom of the Terminator armor entry in the SW armoury their is a note about how they aren't allowed to deepstrike like normal SM termies. Its kinda vague i'll give but its definately a rule and SW terminator definately cannot deep strike without a pod(or planetstrike).
Personally though if your going with storm shields on WG its better to go with termie armor. T armor and SS Wolf guard(with the Power weapon kept) are 48 points, a WG in Power armor with a SS and either Bolt pistol or plain CCW are 43 points. Thats 5 points more on the terminator and you get a power weapon and 2+ armor save out of it. I know they are harder to cram into transports, and thats definately something you need to work around, but for bang for your buck the termie version is way better.
Nevermore Chapter: 6200 pts; 97/49/11; Longest Streak: 9 Wins/4 Losses; Nearing Completion
ok then the other side of the argument has arrived it seems the argument is well hard saves and value against a multitude of attacks from more fragile troops. The question is with the general opinion moving against terminators in pods, do we walk em in to appear through the mists of battle howling a war cry and a wicked grin on their lips or do we let a land raider provide the war cry?
thanks to cowboy for the advice on the pistols
please continue the debate, the comments and advice are MUCH valued
