I just wanted to see if you guys are looking forward to new special characters and what your hopes for them are?
I personally hate both our special characters for the DH codex, but thats just my opinion.
I mean Cortez has an eagle that gives him plus one I, but has a thunder hammer? Unless playing deamons i he goes last anyways! Also a larger retinue isnt that great in my mind it only equals more points for less effectiveness.
BC Stern gives his ability to the oponent also... am I the only one that thinks his special rules benifit others more than the DH player?
So yeah im in favor of something new and completely different, but maybe you guys like somethings about the characters.
( I hope im not thread jacking because I dont look through the thousands of threads before posting. If I am sorry)

Perhaps a few characters that give GK a different 'feel' - like the chapter masters, i.e. an Adeptus Custodes sent from Earth on some task for the Emperor and surrounded by the imperirum's finest (all fire and brimstone rather than stealth and shrouding), or a Grey Knight Custodes Rotulorum leading a force of knights to remove all witnesses to a daemonic incursion (and therefore equipped to fight imperial rather than daemonic forces)
Coteaz is good at what he does, which is fighting daemons. He can take out a bloodthirster or avatar with relative ease, but against non-daemons he falls a day late and a dollar short. I think even now, Coteaz would be pretty scary with 4 crusaders and some churgeons, but that's just me. It would only take a few tweaks and rule adjustments to bring him up to snuff.
Stern, if pretty good as he is. His rule does let his opponent re-roll but if you read the background it makes sense. He has banished the same Lord of Change 3 times now (I think) and he's not happy with Stern. Again, it wouldn't take up to bring him to 5th edition glory. Right now, he is a good medium, though costly, HQ choice and really should be what a Brother Captain is and really show just how deadly a Grand Master should be.
As for other characters, I would like to see Quixos and frankly am surprised they didn't put him in the first one because of the amazing story. The battle between him and Helgrund (another character to see) was epic and to quote the book: "The two battled long and hard, some inquisitors having since likened it to the fight between Horus and the Emperor at the birth of the Imperium." pg58 CH.
40k: Silver Angels of Our Martyred Lady 7/2/3 - Daemons of the Great Squiggle! 3/1/0
Fantasy: Windhost of Athel'Loren 2/0/0 - Daemons of Another Great Squiggle! 0/0/0
Warmahordes: Legion of Everblight (Absylonia)
i do agree fluff wise we have great characters but when playing them i dont think they are where they should be. I mean cortez commanded an entire sector- how does that equal to three extra henchmen play wise? If they do keep cortez then they should lets his retinue seem limitless in my opinion.
As for Stern yeah he works fluff wise but still not that great in my opinion.
I would like to see the inquisitor in the begining, the one that took on all the nuggle followered by himself, i forgot his name sadly but he has a hugh picture of him running with a hammer and in maybe terminator or artificer armour. I think he would make a cool character- that is if he survived.
also i dont think Inq Lord Cortez can take Crusaders or Churgeons... arent those wh henchmen only?
The trend is now character-driven codices. All the new codices - Marines, Guards, Space Wolves, Nids and coming soon, Blood Angels - are all character-heavy. I see DH & WH doing the same should they come out with a new codex for them. The trend also is that the characters will provide various buffs to the armies so you're going to see more and more people start to use characters.
My request is simple - make them along the same lines as the newer marine characters and give a few eternal warriors. Have the characters unlock certain special abilities for the army. That's all I ask for - a level playing field among all the various marine chapters.
Record: Win - Loss - Draw: Hive Fleet Pandora (New) 32-6-6 Space Wolf 7th Co. 52-11-6
Blood Angels 12-4-2 Daemonhunters 20-8-3
Imperial Guards 12-5-2 Daemons 8-3-2
Hmmm, good idea Jimicomix. This is defintely something that crosses my mind from time-to-time.
I'll be up front. As it's likely they'll be quite a few new characters, something that covers both the very affordable (for a GK) but effective would probably be what is on most peoples list and would be welcome. I think Stern could already do this role in a redo.
However on my REAL list, I just really want something the would kick (Mephistos - et al SM characters) a*s, regardless of points, even if he won't get used competitively. I am sick of people going around claiming that Grey Knights are the 'best of the best' yet we don't have a forefigure to represent this. We need someone with fluff that garners the same repsect as other heroes do for other chapters. It's something Stern alone hasn't really achieved yet. I know they are a secretive organisation but to have someone that would actually make Marneus Colgate or Abaddy at least quiver should be a must. Someone practically iconic.
I can imagine a lot of readers here are gonna be against that idea.
Another point I'd like to bring up is Alaric. According to the Grey Knight forum, alot of GK players want him. I've already voiced an opinion on the Grey Knight books (no better than fanfiction) and I think GW can come up with something a lot better. So I'm hoping they won't go down that path.

I too would like to see a character capable of standing toe-to-toe with other armies uber-units. Or at least the ability to to build an HQ or elite unit to fill this roll.
It's worth a krak!
Anyways, I'd like to see GK heros match up to SM heroes the same way PAGKs match up to the regular Marines;
Just plain better.
I will say that back in 4th, before the Codex creep, it wasn't so bad, but in the new SM dex they got characters out the yin yang, and while GK in a way have a smaller pool to draw from, I'd argue they'd have more heroes.
I'd also like to see soem real kick ass equipment for them.
I think more variety is what we really need. I think having a GKT hero that is in between a BC and GM (e.g Stern, but different) is a good idea, because the gap between BC and GM is too big and we need a medium option IMO. Then, another Inquisitor would be good, with some more unique characteristics. What I would really think is cool though is having a Justicar hero. Without knowing much of the fluff stories, maybe Justicar Weiss pictured in the codex could work? Either way, a Justicar hero would make me happy, because I just like the feel of PAGK more than GKT and it would be cool for him to have a retinue of 9 instead of 4-5.
If we were going to have a Justicar hero, it would have to be Alaric, from the Grey Knights series. He's got a lot of characterisation behind him, and the amount of stuff he's gone through gives lots of chances to give him some special rules/wargear to make him more unique.
