Basicly, I'm caught up in the rules. There's a Space Marine codex and a Salamanders supplemental army list in the Armageddon book which focuses on specific changes to the vanilla Space Marine list to give the Salamanders a slightly different army composure. There's different limitations on certain units and tanks, and there's special Terminator squad rules.
What I want to know is, which outdates the other, or which is newer, the space marine codex or the armageddon book? For example in the space marine book you have two terminator squad entries, both are 5 men strong, and one is an assault squad with CC weapons while the other is a shooty squad with access to terminator heavy weapons. HOWEVER.. in the Salamanders section of the Armageddon book theres only 1 Elites Terminator Squad entry, which can be a total of 9 men strong (incl. the Seargent). Not only this, but they can take a mixture of the assault weapons and the shooty weapons. The only heavy weapon listed available is the heavy flamer, but it says they can take TWO in the squad. This is the type of Termie squad id like to run 7 strong, accompanied by a Chaplain in terminator armor if thats still possible, posted up in an Land Raider Crusader. They'd mostly be equipped with thunder hammer and storm shield, which is fluffy for Salamanders.
Can i field this? Or has the lists in Armageddon been outdated by the 5th ed. space marine codex? That would be a shame. I mean I love the honor guard veterans you can bring with a Chapter Master, since they can wear storm shield and power weapons as well as sit in a Rhino or Land Raider. I also like the elite entry veteran squad and their options, and I like the devastator squad, id like to split them into two combat squads of 5 and make one anti-armor and the other anti-infantry. I plan on taking two relatively small tactical squads, maybe 6 or 7 men in each squad, with a multi-melta and a flamer in each. I want anything assault oriented to be mechanized and accompany the termies in the land raider from behind or beside in their Rhinos or Razorbacks. I guess Im getting carried away here.
Can someone clarify if the Armageddon rules for Salamanders and Black Templars are still legal and supposed to be used? Or have they been outdated and am I stuck with the vanilla marine codex only?
Thank you whoever answers this question!
The date in which they came out does not matter. The Armageddon book is meant for "fun" games or campaigns and is completely illegal in a regular 40k game, and you have to have your opponent's permission to use them. Only the standard codexes are officially legal for a regular game and/or tournament. It really comes down to whether you care if your army is legal or not.

I WANNA GET STUCK IN WIT DA BOYZ
Oh I see, I understand now.
So I should use the vanilla list and rweak it to a Salamanders theme.
Incase anyone is unfamiliar with Salamanders, their trademarks are heavy armor incl. tanls, lots of melta weaponry as well as flamers, lots of storm shields and thunder hammers where applicable, and lots of close range shooting. This means it is common to see tactical squads toting a multi-melta in them, and its common to have more than 1 unit of terminators. It's going to be sick I tell you!
One land raider with termies geared up for assault, one land raider with a veterans honor guard or veterans squad with lots of storm shield wearing power / artificer armored marines, perhaps a pair of Razorbacks with a smallish tactical squad in each one, multi meltas and flamers alll over the place, melta bombs where usable, etc. But using jump packs and land raiders isnt very fluffy, because the gravity on their homeworld is alot different, causing these types of things not to work very well.
Mechanized Salamanders here I come!
If anyone wants to check out the army list im working on for Salamanders based 100% off of the Vanilla Space Marine codex, follow this link to the army lists forum and let me know what you guys think!
