I love to use my IG running around, swarming marines, etc... But i noticed they don't have much that can touch big creatures in CC... I know that the ogryns are a high str, and that they have the powerfist, but i just dont know what to use when i run across a hive tyrant in the open plains, or a Dark eldar Talos. I know that they have powerfists, but i just dont know how to use them with officers, bc arn't they independent characters, so can't they be picked out? And i know a few (or alot) of u will say just to shoot everything down, but i always seem to just have one chance w/ them before i am in CC. also with the new 4th ed. rules, say good bye to my lascannon teams! and with this my lascannons are going to need a find a new home w/ in my ranks. I don't mean to ramble on aimlessly but advice would be helpful.

IG arent realyl for hand to hand. Dont be afraid of using your lascannon squads. Just think harder on a spot where they may take the less amount of damage and still be able to shoot something.

seriously, we all love surrounding a tac squad w/ 30+ guardsmen. but seriously, guardsmen aren't supposed to take monsterous creature out in CC. that's why we have "las cannons".
however, guardsmen *were* meant to keep those monsters busy for a turn or two. and at that they excel, just don't hope to kill it in CC.
and yeah powerfists (unless up against a novice or a non cc unit) will not live to swing.
Here's the problem.
Scenario: 30 Guardsmen move in to tie up a Tyrant for a couple turns to keep it out of your heavy weapons. They all lose combat becasue each squad takes 1 W, and does 0. They all flee, but the Tyrant's high I means 2 whole squads die instantly.
Shoot the Tyrant. If you want to use combat, do, but you will never take out a TMC.
That's tough... but that's exactly why I invented the USSR!

The only IGs that can hope to take out a TMC are roughriders with hunting lances.
just stall the enemy with elites and fast attack, also equip one man in each squad with a demo charge and have them use it right before cc, that really *****s up anything close to you.

power fists. i have about 3 power fists in my army. they all work wonders.
