With the new Blood Angels Codex almost upon us, I've started thinking about what type of army I want to build. Having followed the rumours from start to finish it seems like there is going to be a large number of builds available with hundreds of options and ways to bring them to battle.
So who's thinking of starting a Blood Angels army? Or maybe you've already got one and want to update it with some shiny new models? How are you planning to play your Blood Angels?
As for my theme, I'm trying to decide between:
- Dante with three squads of Sanguinary Guard (as Troops), mounted in three Stormravens backed up by Land Speeders.
- Flesh Tearers armoured strike force led by Seth. Lots of 10-man Assault Squads without jump packs mounted in Rhinos, with 3 Baal Predators and 3 Dakka Predators!
Lots of other juicy alternatives are screaming for a chance to be painted up though. The all-dreadnought army? The huge Death Company blob of doom? Ahh the choices!
NB: Havent really looked at the new dex/rumors.
I'm playing vannila, but have 30 jump marines (10 of which aI use as vanguards w/ lots of upgrades). I'll take a look at the new dex, and maybe have a run with a count-as army. I don't want to buy into a new army, so what I have will have to suffice. I think I could use my Ironclads as furry dreads.
So basicly it would look alot like an ordinary marine army, but with jump marines as my scoring units.
So far my friends think its fine if I try out a count-as army, and I rarely play any serious tournaments. But im curious to know if more "official" tournaments would allow count-as armies. With a bit of magnetizing and simple conversions, I could maybe reach a 90 % wysiwyg.
"Counts as" is usually fine in tournaments as long as everyone who has bolters has bolters, plasma gunner have plasma gunners, etc. Death company has to be clearly death company!
I play a grey knight list, many of which are actually counting as regular marines. I actually converted grey knights to be bikers, but they have to count as regular marine bikers, of course.
Counts as is fine so long as things are WYSIWYG. If people give you grief for playing blue Blood Angels, tell them they're welcome to buy you an identical marine army that's painted red.
==My== marines are set up as a Swiss Army army, the same models are in used for SW, DA, SM and sometimes BT. All I'm gonna need to make Blood Angels is 3 more Predators and couple models to rep Sanguinary High Priests.
It'll be mechy and shooty, I'm looking at 6 Preds, 3-6 Rhinos/Razors and Dreads if I can fit them. If I had the models I'd love to do an all deep striking jump pack army, but that's not gonna happen any time soon.
Hey dudes, I think going to be in on the BA gig. Big change for me coming from my shooty Mech IG.
I think I am going to go almost all Jump Troops. Lots of stock units of 10 deep striking, Death Co, Chaplain and Dante. Fill er up with that and no Vehicles. I might have one Tac squad of 10 with a Lacannon/Plasma combo to sit on rear objectives. This of course will depend me get me hands on me own 'Dex for long bathroom reading first.......

I've been an Angel player for slightly more than 15 years. I'm liking the new Codex but i wont be changing my list that much. This is what i'll probably be taking for 2000pts. Might have to make it 2500 just to get some new toys in there.
Capt with L-Claws & Veterans with gear.
2x Assault Squads, Rhino, Fist, 2x Melta guns
2x Tactical Squads, Rhino, PW, Plas/H-Bolter
2x Pred Annihilators with Lascannons all round
2x Land Speeders with M-Meltas.
It's quite Mechanised but hey I'm liking the sound of these 'fast Rhinos'. I do have 50+ Jump Packs in my bitz box so i might get round to doing a jump army as well.
I'll be going heavy on the mechanization. Tactical squads in rhinos, with melta/pcfist, autocannon/lascannon preds, and ac/hb bhaal preds. Probably add in some sternguard somewhere, in larger games (why on earth to the BA have these?). I firmly believe that having all the gun platforms as fast vehicles is going make predators a much more viable option.
I'm gonna go a fluffy "Angels of Light & Dark" army. It will feature Astorath subbing a librarian and a converted winged Celestine for a Canoness. Blood Angels with a dash of sisters and a "winged" theme. I'll have to test out some combos to decide on the structure of the rest of the army, though any hints and tips would be appreciated
