I'm very amused with this new beastie, and I'm curious to see what anybody else thinks. So far, I haven't seen him discussed much, aside from complaints as to why BA get to field him first (well, somebody had to!).
Essentially, what we're looking at is a Dreadnought with front AV 13 that can be upgraded to a Librarian for the price of 10x IG Infantry.. or if you'll join me in viewing it differently, a Elites FOC Librarian that can be upgraded to be entombed in a Dreadnought for the price of 5x Grey Hunters.
What really gets me are his options! A Dreadnought with two psychic power (one per turn) is mighty nifty, but lets look at exactly what those powers can do!
Shield of Sanguinious - This turns him into a walking shield generator. Load him in the back of a Storm Raven and watch that 5+ cover save extend well beyond his usual 6" bubble, and allows you to move the Storm Raven as cruising speed to fire all weapons while still affording the benefit of a save.
Wings of Sanguinious - WHOA! Okay okay.. let me get this straight. Not only can the Librarian be entombed in Dreadnought Armour, but now that Dreadnought can move like jump infantry!? Kehehe, you'll have to give me a moment to allow that one to sink in.. ..okay I'm better now.
The Sanguine Sword - If you want to trade out that Blood Fist for a Frag Cannon (I'd do it just to cut back on how much I write "blood" in my army lists) you can still benefit from 2(3)x S10 I4 force weapon attacks. On that note, IMO, the Frag Cannon is the best thing to happen to flame templates since the Flamestorm.
Might of Heroes - If 2(3) DCCW or Str 6 Force Weapon attacks aren't enough for you, how does an additional +d3 sound?
Shackle Soul - If you want to give your CC monster a psychic shooting attack, this would be the one. BA have some stellar psychic shooting attacks, but this is purely debilitating. Force your opponents to risk losing their movement to get within melta range, or lose their melta shot altogether. Of, if you're facing a high Ld opponent..
Blood Lance - It's not that great for hitting infantry, but the ability to hit multiple units is nice, but the variable length is a bit of a drawback.. but at least you'll roll an average of 12" with it.
Force Weapon - Hey, it's Str 6!
Psychic Hood - With the durability and staying power of a front AV 13 Dreadnought. 'Nuff said.
Expensive, yes.. worth it? Most definitely, I say. I love my Librarians, and I could definitely foresee myself commonly fielding three now (I suspect I'll be dropping two Libbies + Honour Guard most of the time, as I vastly prefer them over a few Sanguinary High Priests)
So what do you think? Will you field them, and if so how will you equip them? What psychic powers will you use?
I've recently become a fan of this thing called Dubstep. And you should too.

If they were an HQ choice like they were in that fan 'dex that was floating around, then they'd be my go-to choice for HQ *and* dreadnought. As it is now, I've got much better things to fill my elite slots with.
I am fascinated by this one. I have the perfect model, the old metal Venerable Dreadnought (already has tiny wings on the exhausts) So, I will be Using WoS, the other psychic power is still undecided, but could probably be decided on a game by game basis.
Questions: Should the dreadnought be painted librarian blue? Do you think the psychic hood needs to be WYSIWYG?
eagerly awaiting the codex, (I advance ordered )
I use two of them with wings of sanguinius and fear of darkness, they are my long range anti-infantry artillery and with frags canons and aheavy flamer on one they are also anti-infantry up close and anti-mc with their S6 force weapons . You also forgot two spells!
Fear of darkness: Auto-hit an enemy unit within 24 inches and they must immediately take a Ld test at -2.
( I have made long fang squads run off and terminator squads run off with this power quite regularly )
Blood boil: range 12" If you complete a psychic test at 5 or lower then you get to pick a specific model that takes a wound within the squad that you targetted( i think you need to wound, can't remember what you need ) that ignores armour saves, if you roll above 5 then your opponent chooses the model.
I think they're awesome. Blood Lance is a given for ==Me==, but the other I'm not sure of. Wings sound good, but if it gets cancelled you may be stuck. Shield is handy, but it's got smoke and vehicles to hide behind. MoH is great overall.
I'm looking for a way to incorporate 2 of them, but 350 is a lot

Are you guys certain that a Librarian Dread can take Frag Cannons? The way they're listed to me and the wording on the Librarian options seems very much like either you do some of those options -or- you go Librarian.. Like Captains taking terminator armor.
Anyway those Librarian Dreads seem interesting, though I dont think I'll be using them any time soon. If they'd had the Space Wolf powers it'd be a whole different case (not that the BA's are so weak just not awesome).
Not exactly sure one what powers I'd use, were I to pick any, though I'm not as fond of the Lance as everyone else seems to be.. The autohit is nice, but the variable (short) range will be too much of an annoyance I think.
I also wouldn't Neglect the Blood Boil power, 10/36th to remove that power fist before charging into a squad that just lost all means of killing your dread.
Wings, Shackle, Fear, Shield and Might are all amongst the candidates aswell In decreasing order as to what I like the most, but the synergy with the rest of list means alot.
An interesting thing to take notice of about the Shield is that it's used in the enemy's turn.
I saw the codex today. If I am not mistaken, the librarian dread cannot take frag cannon, magna grapple, or blood talons.. Exchanges all wargear for blood fist and force weapon, or something like that..
It seems useful and I'll probably use one at least occasionally, but it really doesn't do anything a normal Librarian wouldn't. I see it as more of a conversion challenge that a game-changing god-machine.

I really like the idea of the Librarian Dread. The fluff is awesome and it makes the dreads even that bit cooler in my eye. As for rules and tactics i can't really add much more than the Original poster and the ones after........
However. Blood angels get Librarian Dreads...............hmmm. I wonder if that means Black Templars will get Chaplin Dreadnaughts?
