After I had included everything I wanted in my current 'Ard Boyz list, I came up to 2400 points, exactly 100 left over to play around with. After reading several different posts saying that the 10-point heavy bolter upgrade for Vendettas was well worth it, I tried it out myself and found it to be definitely true. So 30 of the 100 went to upgrading all 3 of the Vendettas with those. Then, since these Vendettas and their transported squads make up almost 25% of my army, I decided to add an Astropath to my CCS to make their arrival as reliable as possible. That left me with 40 points to tinker with. In this 2500pt 'Ard Boyz list, I take 4 Veteran squads with triple melta guns, each in a Chimera (aka Chimelta). So I decided to put an autocannon in each, bringing me to 2500 even. After trying it out over a couple of games, I must say, for 10 extra points, the option to sit still and be a threat at range to many different targets has been priceless. At the beginning of a game against an army that will come to you, such as a Green Tide, Dark Eldar, or Nids, there is no point in rushing the Chimeltas forward. Or at the end of a game, say 5th or 6th turn, when there are only one or two targets left on the board, but they are several feet away, my Chimeltas no longer feel useless. It IS often best to keep moving, but in many situations, there will not be a charge threat near, for instance against another shooty army. The OPTION to be stationary and still be able to reach out and touch something in situations like these, for just 10 extra points, has proven to be too good to pass up. The key is to not let it weigh you down. If you know you should be advancing to get the meltas in range, do so without hesitation. But, quite often, the opportunity will present itself to stay put and send some extra BS4 autocannon rounds downrange. I recommend Chimelta users to just try it out and see how it works for you!

Never really though of that! ill try it out sometime.
If you have 10 points to spare, why not? If you've got 10 more, tack on a HK missile for a little extra surprise.

I tend to put an Autocannon in my veteran squads. 10 points for a pair of S7 shots, you aren't really losing anything, and once the Vets get on the point and do their job, it can become nice to have.
I think it makes the veterans more flexible
By adding the autocannons to the veterans, you have the choise to rush forward or to hold back.
when fighting with chimelta veterans list, the enemy would only expect to get these veterans in range. He will adept his tactics to the onerole vets. By adding an autocannon to the squad, it will make it multi purpose and give more possibilities.
Exactly. Adding the autocannon allows for an entirely new set of tactical options. And to reiterate again, for just 10 more points! I will be doing this from now on.
