Hey SM Board,
I would like guidance as to further expanding my Vanilla (Ultramarines army)
Complete Army List:
Calgar w/ Honour Gaurd
3x10 Tactical (F & ML)
1x5 Combat Squad
2x5 Assault Squad (PP & PF)
Predator (TLL && HBS)
2x Rhino (SB )
Dread (HF & AC)
My usual playmate is Blood Angels (0-1-2, pre-codex). With the new codex, I have yet to see where my usual opponent will take his army. I am a bit scared of a fast frontal CC assault, and have yet to see much discussion about countering the new BAs.
Calgar: I do like his advantage that I can pass all leadership, which is great to tie up the BA in CC, pretty much neutralizing some units for the entire game.
My main concern is that it is a footslogger army (meat and potatoes), without the dynamic flexibility to surprise my enemy.
I'm open to a HQ change, whether it be a captain, or a named character. I don't have very much experience with other HQ's so assistance would be good.
I know that the additions would either be FA or HS, I can tell my list is lacking in these areas.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Definitely mech up all your marines, grab a Pred or two, another Dread and some Speeders to give you that mobile firepower.
Marneus I find is generally too pricey. A normal Captain is fine, though I prefer a Librarian for its low cost and awesome support.

If you want to try different HQs, just declare that you're proxing him as someone, try him out. no reason to buy model until you're sure you like them.
I think for staters to would prbably benefit from a landspeeder, get the tornado.
The combat squad is definitely not a useful investment since you can just take 10 tacticals, 2 special weapons, and then have the option of splitting. That way you're more flexible and get special weapons to boot. If you invest in another tac squad I would use all the special weapons so you can take different options in different games and don't have 5 guys running around with just bolters. Note: This in imo and in most cases sometimes its better to have less and you might not want more bodies.
You might need a second HQ like a Chappy for the assualt squad and beef it up to 10 or a Librarian in a Termy suite and get him some Termy back-up. Getting Terminators will also expand your painting horizons and they're awesome models.
I'd like to clarify that my "Complete Army List" is just what I currently own.
I would like guidance not on necessary filling it up, but working with what I have.
Thanks for all the comments so far!
I feel that calgar and his honour guard squad dont do enough to justify their cost, my usual unit is a captain (or sicarius if the game is big enough) with a command squad kitted out for close combat in a razorback with twin linked assault cannons, but hq choice aside pretty sure most people will agree that command squads are better then honour guard squads.
I'd also deffinently get a 3rd rhino for all your 3rd tactical squad, and maybe turn that combat squad into a cheap 4 missile launcher dev squad
