I was just the lucky winner of a raffle at my local GW store. The prize? A new Leman Russ! Now I'm not sure what variant I should use.
Just some info about my army. It's almost all infantry. I have 6 scout sentinels and a Vendetta for armor. The rest is infantry squads, vet squads, heavy weapons teams, and storm troopers. This is my first and only Leman Russ and actually my single, solitary Heavy Support choice. Needless to say its a gunline army with the anti-armor from the sentinels, Vendetta, and heavy weapons teams. The enemy's main anti-armor guns will of course be split between the Vendetta and the Russ.
So any suggestions as to what variant of Russ goes well with a gunline army. I'm pretty satisfied with my anti-infantry and anti-armor firepower but of course I could always use more of both.
The Eradicator would be a good choice, it'd let you ignore their cover saves as they advance on your position. Always a good bet with the regular LRBT, with it's awesome cannon, or play it safe with a shorter ranged Demolisher, though in this instance, I'd say Eradicator or LRBT
In my 1000pt list I run 2 standard LRBT's, as they can put the hurt on almost anything. Yes, they are not specialist tank hunters, or marine killers, but they have an awesome cannon and cost the least. Besides, in your list any enemy AT will target your vendetta, then your russ. Their is a maxim from my ork army that I would suggest to you here. Basically, anything that keeps your enemy from shooting at your boyz (guard squads with heavy weapons), its worth taking. And then, if they dont shoot it, it might actually cause some damage.
Have fun wreaking havoc with a new Leman Russ!

Gunlines typically have a hard time handling AV14 or entrenched enemies. Demo or Erad.

And the consensus thus far is....
...there really isn't one. Maybe this thread should have been made a poll?
If the prize was a Leman Russ kit then it won't have the parts for a Demolisher. I advise making a standard LRBT; infantry-heavy lists don't have many blast templates and the battle cannon is both multi-role and sufficiently long-ranged to sit in the middle of your formation and blast away happily.

Demo = Russ with a clipped barrel
The LRBT doesn't do anything your guns can do already. Light armor? AC/LC. MEQs? Massed fire. The Demo helps you against 2+ saves (trickier with gunlines), AV14, and is the toughest tank you can field.
Go with the demolisher.
1) It has better rear armour. S4 can't glance it and it is only half as likely to be penatrated by krak grenades.
2) Its main gun is more destructive, it an pen AV14, and actually has a 55% chance of doing so if you hit). It can also wreck terminators and instant kill T5.
3) The lower range isn't much of a problem when playing gunline, really who tries to sit back and outshoot an IG gunline?
