    Imperial Guard Sergeants

Hey everyone, I heard recently that with the new(I know it's been out for a year) Guard codex that all sergeants are now required to carry a pistol and close combat weapon. I haven't been able to buy the new codex yet but could one of you give me a simple yay or nay on this since most of my sergeants are modeled with rifles.

Yep. Sorry. I had to re-model my Sgts too.

Which almost makes me want to cry.

"Hey, congratulations! You are now a sergeant of the Imperial Guard! Here's a crappier gun than the one you were just using!"

Thank you for the info guys. So much for the Gaunt's Ghosts set up I had going. Guess I'll just model some guys with CCWs and use my sergeants as line infantry.

    Other options

Although the unfortunate vanilla sergeant has a las pistol & close combat weapon this isn't his only option.
He can replace the las pistol with a bolt pistol, plasma pistol or power weapon whilst at the same time he can replace the
close combat weapon with a power weapon or plasma pistol,
at least this gives some variation, veteran sergeants also get shotgun & power fist options. Just a shame GW don't do a shotgun sprue.

Yeah, you gotta love how they snuck a catachan sergeant armed with a BOLTGUN into the catachan models page.

Illegally armed models in GW published books FTW!

That is one of the things that broke my nerves in the new codex.

I really hate the look of it now that I have re-modelled them and I disagree with it fluff-wise and game-wise.

At least they SHOULD have given us the option!

Keep in mind though, that this doesn't mean you have to use the Chainsword. You can just as easily add on a small knife (from the pouches and accessories) on the belt or whatever and count this as a close combat weapon. I'm using Sergeants with lasguns but the barrel has been cut down and the stock removed to give it a different look and count as a las pistol.

    *Sigh*

This post has just reminded me that I need to do some re-modelling too...

I may actually use my old Sergeant models grouped up as a Veteran squad... It would be a shame ot waste them after all- after I made them look 'unique' pose-wise etc so they'd stand out even with their standard lasgun

Easy shotgun convertion that works for me. Snip of the end of the barrel and file down the top of the gun. Looks a little more compact and lighter. Maybe scatter lazer version of shotgun?
