I'm running a 2k points list right now, cant test or play as I am deployed to afghanistan... but I made a list and I have got 55 points to play around with
My list consists of :
3 Leman Russ lascannon w/HB sponsons
2 Armored fist squads w/stubber and grenade launcher
6 Infantry squads, 3 with HB and vox, and 3 with ML (to make 3 combined squads each with 1 ML and 1 H
2 Infantry squads with autocannons one with gl one with melta (to defend the bassies)
2 platoon command squads with vox, standard, and 2 snipers
1 company command squad with vox, standard, 2 snipers, and master of ordnance
im thinking scout sentinel with lascannon and giving the company hq krak grenades.... any better ideas?
Thanks for your help =D
Hmmm....... I like a scout sentinel with an autocannon, but if you would prefer the lascannon, go right ahead. However, you've got more than enough AT with teh bassies, russes and ML teams, so I would opt for a flanking autocannon sentinel, just to cause some fun in your enemy's lines.
Well, Good luck and here's to a safe tour.
Father Mulcahy: Just as the Lord said to Noah, "Everything in pairs."
Pierce Hawkeye: Of course the Lord was holding three aces at the time.
I actually meant Armored Fist squads, they are two infantry squads running only GLs and Vox with Multi Laser-Heavy Bolter-Heavy Stubber Chimera, basically relying on the apc for the heavy weapons and using the GL on the turn they disembark for some extra punch. All these squads do is plug any gaps that come up in the line, or possibly strike at a weakpoint in theirs.
I will play with it a little- I see sonoftheemporer likes autocannons maybe even swears by them, haha. I will check it out. I just like that the Heavy bolter is specifically for infantry and the missle launcher is just enough of both anti-tank and anti-infantry (and cost effective). The autocannon just seems to much of a jack of all trades. I just imagine myself squaring off against a monolith and the slightly better chance a trio of missle launchers has of stopping it while the big guns get set up.
As a (future) collector I am just fundamentally opposed to aircraft. I can kind of gather your playstyle though, I'm just looking for what the IG is best known for - dig in, and grind the enemy down with overwhelming firepower.... times two. I'm headed off to the tent though, ill try and get on here tomorrow with anything new =D thanks for all your help.
I agree with Son, actually, for mostly everything. Autocannons actually outclass just about every other heavy weapon we've got (outside of meltaguns), by the nature of it's statistics: two shots actually have a much better chance at downing everything AV12 and under, which is basically most vehicles in the game, and most importantly, most APCs. You are right, they're jack of all trades, but they do it very well.
What I will disagree with is giving the command squad(s) autocannons. I'd give each command squad a heavy bolter and grenade launchers. Heavy bolters do better against infantry hordes and monstrous creatures, plus, what's not to like about a rapid fire machine gun rocket launcher?
3 weaker shots or 2 much stronger ones that can also penetrate AV 12. No brainer IMO.
Why are you opposed to aircraft? Fast moving skimmers, with transport capacity AND a vendetta can pump out 3 twin linked lascannon shots a turn.
If you don't want vendettas you really need some other anti-tank, suck as chimelta(3x melta in a chimera veterans.)
Everything I said is what I believe are the best ways to make your army competitive. Just my opinion though.
Against infantry, it's irrelevant if the shot is S7 or S5. Three shots at S5 will get you more kills than 2 at S7. Autocannons are great for killing everything, but heavy bolters are better at killing infantry.
