I’m about to start playing with my mech guard army and after the actual army is complete I’ll be wanting to create some alternative lists. Of course the troops are mechanized veterans so the choices that are is question are clearly Fast Attack & Heavy Support.
But rather than post 2 polls asking for your favourite HS & FA choice I thought it would be best to ask "What HS & FA choices do you take in 1500pt games and why?"
For example my 6 choices are…
Banewolf: Heavy flamer – great anti marine,
2 Scout Sentinels with Autocannons (1750pt games only) - good long ranged anti-tank unit I’ll outflank with them depending on my opponent’s army.
Valkyrie: Missile Pods – Choose it over Vendetta as I want to use it’s transport ability to the full.
Leman Russ: Lascannon – Anti-marine & tank.
Manticore: Anti-horde & tank.
2 Hydras: Anti-monster & tank.
So I’d like to see what other guard players prefer?
These are the best IMO
Vendettas(they beat Valkyries by miles.)
2-3 sentinals w/ autocannons.
LRBT(hull heavy flamer)
LR Demolisher(hull heavy flamer)
In lower point games, I will take 1 or 2 Vendettas with heavy bolters for Fast Attack, and 2 separate Demolishers with hull lascannons along with a squadron of 2 Hydras for Heavy Support. In higher point games, I fill all 3 Fast Attack slots with separate Vendettas, and then 2 squadrons of 2 Demolishers and a squadron of 3 Hydras for Heavy Support.
I WANNA GET STUCK IN WIT DA BOYZ
Vendetta: Transports a squad of demo-vets for occasional alpha-strikes. Perfect for just about anything together with the vets.
Hellhound with Multi-melta: Perfect for hosing cover-huggers and throwing out the occational melta-shot.
Leman Russ Demolisher with hull Heavy flamer: All-round good tank. Don't leave home without one ^^
Leman Russ Eradicator with hull Heavy flamer: Cover clearer and shield for other tanks.
1 Hydra with hull Heavy flamer: Some extra anti-transport/bikes/MC goodness. Add another one as soon as I have pts.
I've had some thoughts of exchanging the Eradicator, but i'm not all to sure ^^
-"Oh God, this is going to take a while..."
Probaly a hellhound.
and a vendetta packed with lascannons.(mephiston)
battle tank with lascannon, and pask.
maybe one hydra
If Slaanesh is the god of the Perverse, why does Nurgle have all the filth?
I'm playing a mech army too and I'm using:
Valkyrie w/ multi-laser/multirocket pod (vet squad w/ 3 melta mounted in)
Vendetta (vet squad w/ 3grenade launcher mounted in)
3 armoured sentinel w/ autocannon
2 demolisher w/ lascannon seperated
1 leman russ battle tank w/ las cannon 2 heavy bolter
Fast Attacks, top 4 in no particular order:
Sentinels (scout or otherwise)
Rough Riders (Great counter charging, though not mechanized)
Leman Russ Demolisher
Leman Russ Battle Tank
Honestly i dont know why anyone would chose anything but the vendettas, they are to good to pass up.
Real players go Guard....Real Men go Airborne!
I've got three Vendetta models, but I almost never run three Vendettas. An outflanking scout sentinel squadron can win me the game. A third vendetta doesn't add anything I don't already have.
Templates are good vs hoards and bane wolves make MEQs cry lolol
There are just too many good fast attack options for my liking. I'd love to take some rough riders but once the almost obligatory scouts sentinels are in you don't have much flexibility.
