Well, as you might know, I'm planning to run a pure drop pod army list and of course, I'm planning to take Stern Guard Veterans w/Pedro Kantor so that they will be scoring units in the game. However, I noticed that they are pretty damn expensive for only 5 of them, so a friend suggested I try to convert my own. Just wanted some advice and ideas that you guys might have tried when or if you converted your own, how I can go on about doing that and how I can get the different parts to make them look like stern guard (particularly the bolters w/the scopes and drum mags). Thnxs for your help.
You can Convert regular Tac Marines easily enough. I went the route of Combi-meltas with the GW metal melta pack, you get 5 melta guns. I hacked the barrels of the meltas and bolters and them reattached them to the bolter in the over under config. It's a bit squishy but serviceable. You can hack flamers for those, and plasma pistols if your going that route. Round up as many tabards and purity seals as you can. GW also has a set of 8-10 Terminator honour shoulder pads as well. You can convert a heavy flamer from the terminator one. (There are tuts for most of these weapon conversions on here.)
Hvy Flamer: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...onversion.html
I think I found the Combi-flamer conversion on Bolter & Chainsword actually.... but the Combi-Melta can give you the basic principles.
All in all, your looking to spend at about the same or just over what a box of 5 Sternguard cost (If you do them up right) but, you can work 10 or more of them out of all this instead of just 5.
I ended up using a mix of Regular Tac Marines, a Box of Sternguard, a Set of Black Reach Marines and 2 Melta Packs and ended up with 20 Sternguard with 5 Combi-meltas, 1 Power Fists and 1 Heavy Flamer in each squad.
Good Luck to you!
Thnxs for the thread Cerrik, however I cant see the hvy. flamer conversions for some reason. Is there another link, or could I just use a standard flamer to represent a hvy. flamer.
I've used the Dark Angel Veterans for mine. All robed up with fancy gubbinz all over them (sights, ammo pouches etc) they look pretty effective. Finding Terminator honour shoulder pads (from the Command squad box) will help.
As for the H-Flamer conversion. It's a simple arm swap with a Terminator Heavy Flamer. Held exactly like the one on the Death Company.
Yeah, the photobucket bandwidth on that members account is to high or something... I dunno what thats about. Don't have a PB account myself. Basically, you just hack at the terminator Elbow and do the same for a regular SM arm and then model them together with Green stuff and attach a second handgrip and done.
The terminator heavy flamer is pretty much the way to go for a heavy flamer, although I was able to pull off a decent conversion (doesn't look quite as good and requires a bit of more work) with a scout heavy bolter. The terminator route is a better waty to go but the heavy bolter to heavy flamer coonversion is easily doable should you not be able to get a heavy flamer yourself.
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
Yea, sorry about the photobucket issue. It's really frustrating. They have blocked my account until it resets itself. That should have happened 3 weeks ago.
Look here for a couple pics of final model........first pic.
I myself mixed some Fantasy parts (mostly helmets), Chaos parts (Khorne with the extra skulls) and the Death Watch conversion kit from GW. I am going to actually paint them in a Death Watch colors too. Right now they are only primed and waiting for their turn at the painting table...
