I have Black Templars already but i want to start Dark Angels too so i wanted to know is it still possible to make a competitive list to go up against the Tyranids, Space Wolves & the Blood Angels thanx
you should probably use other space marine rules or wait for the new DA codex.
i dont know about templars but with DA it is very possible to make a competitive list. Especially if your opponient lets you use the updated rules for SM. I personally run a deathwing list. It is fun to see the face of your opponient when you place 25 termys on the table and tell them that they are all scoring units
But otherwise I would agree with above, you should wait until 1 of the codexes get updated.
p.s. does anyone know when the DA codex is being updated and where I can find rumours for it??
2010 WOC MOSTER HORDE W 4/L 0/D 0
2010 Dark Angel Deathwing W 2/L 0/D 0
I think that if you're gonna use the codex for either BT or DA, it can be a bit tough to compete. Both have their advantages, such as BT being able to field min/maxed assault cannon terminators with the tank hunters rule and Deathwing being able to field terminators as troops, but as is generally the case when codices get updates, the newer codices are just made to be better in an effort to get people to buy stuff.
A lot of people choose to field BT and DA color schemes, but instead of using their specific codices, they take them as vanilla SMs, which is acceptable I guess if you're willing to forgo fluff for competition. So really, it comes down to how willing you are to play fluffy. Either one can compete when it comes to the dice rolling.

I still use my Templar army competitively. We don't play objective games very often though so I don't know just how well my army would do in that circumstance.
Equally. You can make an army of marines with 20 in each squad cause of the neophytes. Which would be hell to plant on an objective if you play those games regularly.
My Templar need a revamp anyway but everything else is getting in the way >.>
DA can be very competative but personally I think they got nerfed by the current Marine book as they were used as testers for the rules in that one. GW never ever going to risk making a hash of the vanilla marine book
I don't like using a different codex with the armies colors, i do know a few people who do it though.
Good luck anyway.
"I have dug my grave in this place and I will either triumph or I will die!" Reclusiarch Grimaldus
"Those I cannot crush with words I will crush with the Tanks of the Imperial Guard!" Lord Solar Macharius
"Hear Me Inquisitor Ordinary. Obey me. I am of the Malleus!" Inquisitor Jaq Draco
No me neither it just don't feel right to use a different codex....... so if i was to add "The Holy Orb Of Antioch" in my lists would that be very effective & while i'm on this subject how many can i have & who can hold them ?
As many as you buy, and anyone that can purchase wargear.
