I can remember 4 or 5 months back the first time i used the Imperial Guard i was fighting against Tau & in the game i had Guardsman Marbo (awesome unit) i rolled for reserves & he came in from their flank & i got into combat with his fire warriors i killed 3 out of 10 & he didn't wound at all, he failed his LD test & i managed to run the rest down with a sweeping advance & i won the game because of it.
I just thought i would share that with everyone now i will always bring Marbo so do you think guys about him & would you's always take him in your lists or just sometimes thanx
It depends who I'm playing against, but, for example against Space Marine players, being able to throw a demo charge at a (more or less) freely chosen point in their back field is a very good way to disrupt their plans. High value targets such as command squads, terminators, and (particularly, due to lack of probable invulnerable save) devastators are an easy way to make your points back at a stroke, as well as seizing the initiative.
Against horde armies, the large blast can still be useful, but makes less good use. However, most hordes (Orks, Nids, more Guard) have high-value command or elite assets which benefit from a tactical application of high explosives.
Probably the only armies I wouldn't consider Marbo as good against are small, elite, but soft armies (Eldar, some Tau and Daemon builds), where the same effect can be had through the application of cheaper firepower.
But generally, he's great fun.
He won my last game for me, dropped him on the marine's objective, wiped out 5 men with his demo charge, and contested the objective for 3 turns running in and out of combat shooting his ripper pistol......he even survived!
I think hes great.
He either does everything or nothing.
Hes great to use, not overly competitive though.
9/10 times he WILL die.
Hes 65pts though. and for the chance of taking out something MUCH more expensive. I'd use him. demo charges can be one of the best weapons in your arsenal.
I tend to think your giving away a killpoint with him so use him wisely. but yeh, if your finding your list a bit boring, find the 65pts for him, as he brightens up any game

You guys have me thinking now. That guy sounds like a one man army.
He pretty much is. I love to use Marbo, and when I create my list, I automatically subtract his points from my total from the get go. Marbo just does so much for me. He's a free KP most of the time, but he's no slouch in melee (though he really shouldnt be in melee). I've yet to play a game where he didn't earn his points back.
Thanks, he's just been added to my 'I want one' list.
I consider Marbo to be more of a support unit, he can take heat off of the rest of your army rather than just hit some backfield enemy.

Guard Shooting takes its toll on the orks, with the help of Marbo's demolition charge, still 15 Orks left
Orks can now move, but must stay 1" away from Marbo, multi charging will be difficult because your opponent will have t have models closer to the IG unit than to Marbo as they must move to the closest enemy when assaulting. The orks can shoot Marbo, and this will kill him but it means that they cannot charge. lternatively other units can shoot Marbo but he will get a 3+ cover save (2+ if he goes to ground) and most ork ranged weapons would be better targetted, or have the chance of scatering into the orks moving up around him. If the orks charge Marbo he will take a few out due to their bad save and his poisoned attacks.
