I'm new to the whole Witch Hunters Army, but not to the game. I've played IG, Tau and have a small army of Tanith.
I want to get a Witch Hunter army up and running but I do still love my Guard. I know theres a way to combine the guard with the witch hunters if the witch hunters are your "Major army" right? Is there any way I could use my guard and have some sisters, exorcist and some other stuff? And how effective (In your opinion) is a Witch Hunter-Imperial Guard Army?
Look in your codex for using allies with the WH. It should explain how you are able to use guard to augment your girls. Basically you can take some troops some fast attack and some heavy support. But you should read the entry for the details.
Ok, a lot of people like using guard to help their girls. I am working on some myself.
Our ladies lack one key thing, long range shooting. We often talk about the "stance of power" and for the Sisters it is between 8 and 12 inches away from the target. That is close enough to rapid fire, and just outside of charge range. The guard element provides some shooting that can be done as the girls make their way across the board. If you were running an immolator spam army for example, then you might not have any shooting on turns one or two. Sure you might fire an exorcist or two, but that isn't really enough to crippling damage to an opposing force.
Guard tends to mesh pretty well with our girls, and, today, is a viable option for making them more competitive and generally harder to deal with.
Aggies for 40k - PM me for details.
Alright, thank you very much. I'll check the codex when it comes in.
The way I added IG to my sisters under the old guard codex was two armored fist squads armed with nothing but an autocannon for exactly the purpose that fizzix mentioned: long range fire support. That gave me two multilasers and two autocannons (okay, and two heavy bolters/heavy flamers on the hulls of the chimeras, but that's something the sisters have access to anyway) for pretty cheap, and it unlocked what I consider the best reason to induct IG: a leman russ. If you take two or more IG troops choices, you can take one russ...and a pie plate behind AV14 is a beautiful thing in a codex that was balanced not to have one. I think the current SoB PDF has changed the options so that you now get to take a veteran squad instead of the now nonexistent armored fist squad as the cheapest IG troops choice in a sisters army. That's actually a good thing, now you can have multiple BS4 plasma guns that were previously unavailable, plus the aforementioned tank (not sure if you're allowed to take variants now, or just the stocker, since I stopped inducting IG when the new guard codex came out and eliminated armored fist squads...before a new SoB FAQ subbed in the vet squad).
IG since 1999 __ DA since 2002 __ Tau since 2005 __ SoB since 2007
Brets 1997-1999 __ TK since 2009 __ Empire since 2010
Thanks, What I think I'm going to do is to hold off on on the Witch Hunters until their new Codex comes out (I've heard rumors of one), only because the fact that I need to save some serious cash for a car and SoB's are metal and pretty expensive.
I used to do the Double AF and Russ combo back when the codex permitted it.
Now, I'm Using a Platoon w/Autocannons, GL's and a Commissar then put 3-4 Meltas or Flamers into the PCS, and drive off in a chimera. I also use the platoon to get chimeras for Sisters, or especially, a GKT squad w/2 Psycannon. A Chimera's also a great ride for an Inq. and his melta or plasma toting buddies.
I don't get a Russ now unless I'm going over 2k pts. I go for mass might/medium armor. People get worried when you plunk down 10-11 tanks at 1750.
look around on my blog, I've got examples of WH/IG forces. it's a fun combo.

those will give you some ideas about using/running WH with inducted IG. It's one of my favorite ways to play WH.
Highly reccommend a coalition IG/WH army. It is what I run.
At 1750pts, they complement each other nicely.
I use IG as the base army with two sister/rhino squads, a canonness+ret on foot, and seraphim (imo rubbish, although I may not know how to play them).
IG: two lemon russ, 1 bassie, two melta-vet sqd, 1 valk and a 20 man gunline.
Farmpunk: you seem to take St celestine in your lists. How does she work? I have one, but never tried her.
