I'm going to having a game pretty soon where my Necrons will face off against a friend's Imperial Guard. I'm wonder what sorts of experiences you lads have had with Necrons and how you fare against them given the new rules. Additionally, we'll be playing an 1850pt game, and although I don't have either of our lists avaliable to post, I'd still like to hear if you have any sort of advice regarding what I should concentrate on or how I should go about taking them down, as I've only played against IG once before, and that one time, the player was just starting out. He should be having an infantry-heavy army with a few tanks for support, if that matters at all. Thanks much gents, and let's hear it.
Havent put my IG out against my Sons Necrons yet with 4th ed rules, but with 3rd Ed:
Elite units (expensives high powered ones, not just those on the Elites section of the force org chart) are way overkill, stuff like wraiths are vastly expensive and small in size and tend to get dragged down by sheer numbers, this will be made even worse by the "Within 2 inches" rule for close combat, making them far less effective than they are vs marines or chaos, I would bulk up on warriors and use scarab swarms to tied down some of his units
Ordinance hurts. Quite oviously there are a limit to the number of monoliths, tomb spiders and res orbs, if he can negate your WBB he will, if he can do this by dropping a str 8+ ordinance template on a squad he may wipe out 8 or so warriors with one shot. If he can do this to imortals or pariahs he will, screening these behind warriors is no longer very effective either. Take out his ordinance as a matter of priority. Luckily we are talking Basilisks and leman Russ/variants here, so break out the heavy Ds and go tank hunting
I am sure there is more stuff
Everything you have been told is a lie!
ok here ar some tips, from past experiences <_< . if u dont have a nightbringer, get one! i plated crons the other day and my friend pushed my whole army off the board with him! also keep your warriors back so u have a better chance of not phasin outt. when u want to move your warriors up teleport them with ur lord and unleash hell on em and they'll be done. done.

Resurection Orb is your friend, take two!
Put your Lord(s) in the middle of a big squad(s) and walk.
now in 3ed a good tactic would be to run up some scarabs to block LOS and haras (distract) IG shooting.
in 4ed, the screening is gone, but you may wanna still take some scarabs. they're fast and can infiltrate (right?). get in close, cause him to shoot at them, and get into CC. tie up as many as his guns as possible.
also scarbs (with DF) can do a good job against the obligitory Russ he'll take.
Viel of Darkness (the teleporter?) is a good choice. slap your lord in a squad warriors and teleport next to any Bassies (indirect ordnance) he make have taken.
and of course, destroyers are always nice. just don't let them get too shot up (no screening).
don't take Wraiths (unless playing in a very very dense map). don't take flayed ones, don't take Heavy Destoyers or Pariahs.
and of course, take the Monolith and Deepstrike it in the middle of his army. this is a no brainer. it *should* draw alot of fire.
good luck, but i'm still rooting for the IG guy
