They're independant... not independant characters right?
IE they CAN be picked out by enemy shooters... right?
as far as i know ther independent characters , thats what it says in the codex , right ?

No, the codex calls them Independant, but not IC's. That's to prevent them from joining units, I imagine. As for shooting, I believe they work as normal size 2 units - there just happens to be one model in the unit.
Another reason to regret taking assassins on Alpha-level missions in 4th edition. <_<
EDIT: Besides Callidus or Vindicare, that is.
