Vanquishers are pretty dreadful value except against really high armour targets like Land Raiders and Russes. Even then, the single shot weapon is all-or-nothing. Because of BS3 a few bad rolls can ruin your game plan. Vendettas give you a lot of flexibility and Hydras are great against light to medium vehicles. Both give you the reliability of having a big volume of fire and re-rolls for being twin-linked
If you want to take a vanquisher, you have to take pask with a lascannon. Even then though you are still relying on 2 BS4 shots. Vendettas however have 3 twinlinked lascannons so for less points you have a better chance of popping armor.
hope is the first step on the road to dissapointment
Melta guns FTW.
You need only to get into 6" range and any armour is almost certainly dead.
That's why you have 3 in a vet squad and pop them in a chimera to deliver them into the enemy.
It all depends on your target´s AV. (You don´t send in your melta vets to destroy that ork pick upp.)
Meltas for high AV and autocannons and lascannons (or even missile launchers) for the rest.
For 460 Points points, 2 Meltavet Squads in Chimerae and 2 Hydras gives you all th antitank you should need at 2000 points or less. If it's 2500, you might need a bit more.
I take 5 veteran squads at 1500 points, and 3 of the are melta vets.
Yeah I think that is a reasonable number, you need long ranged AT too though. So long as you have enough redundancy to compensate for alpha strikes and stuff then you will be fine.
I like a combination of Vendettas, Melta Vet Squads and either Exterminator or Hydras. You can't beat Meltas for AV14 and you can't beat the long range Autocannons of Exterminators/Hydras for Transports. Vendettas are good at anything, which is why I always take three
