OK so I'm going to buy a Land raider. i am also going to buy the the multi-melta the storm bolter and the hunter killer missile. my Question is this, where is it legal to mount them? i cant see anywhere in any rule book stating where optional weapons need to be mounted ? i was thinking sense the land raider DOES have a pintle mount. i was planning on using a SM gunner in the hatch with a missile launcher to count as the hunter killer missile, thus giving it a 360 degree firing arc. and i thought of doing something similar for the multi melta also. i have also considered fabricating a turret that houses all 3 weapons and place it on a swivel mount on top of the land raider =). thoughts? comments?
I've done the "dude with a missile launcher" for an HKM a couple times - it definitely looks badass. I'm not sure about a single swivel turret, but I don't *think* anyone will have issues with it. Maybe check with your gaming group?
Also, I'm wondering a bit about the good sense involved in buying all 3 upgrades. Seems a little overkill to me. :p
lol it might be overkill lol, as far as the turret i was considering modifying a predator turret and putting it on to of the Land raider.
Both the storm bolter and the multi-melta fits the pintle mount. The rhino has a closed hatch, where a storm bolter can be attached to, but I don't know if the LR has the same piece.
The hunter/killer missile can be placed anywhere. Samples usually have it placed at the back of the LR, behind the open hatch, on a plate.
You can get some ideas by looking in any SM codex, or from the GW website itself.
sorry that i ask this, but why do you want a Hunter Killer missile anyway? rather spend 5 points more and get Extra Armour instead,
i speak out of experience that these missile don't do anything spectacular, sure they have low point costs and when they kill a single marine it made up it's points but mostly the shot is wasted, rather buy a extra strong heavy weapon for my Tacticals or Extra Armour for a few extra points instead,
but that is just my oppinion
I think they are most useful in Apocalypse or Spearhead, due to their long range. Could be handy if you have the risk of a Deathstrike missile coming your way at some point during the game, if it hits and penetrates...
My I suggest you don't glue any of them in place, there should be enough spare hatches and wotnot to leave them unglued, then you can swap them as needed.
