I've always wondered! In the codex it says its a mystery and then I hear of some kind of virus!
If you look at Where Ultimate Macharius is its within reach of a Craftworld... It could of been those Eldar too!
I'd like to hear your opinion on how you think he died!
I think that bolter shell imbeded in his chest finally detonated.
Or with his military career over he retired to a paridise world, this is more likely but less interesting.

I was under the, er, understanding, that Altansar was very near to Terra. Like, really close, so that maps either old or just has Altansar's position wrong.
He didn't die, he just was sucked back in time to fight dinosaurs alongside the Emperor in a bid to stave off a dino-pocalypse.

Yeah, I too heard he died of old age / sadness over having no more planets to conquer.
Given he's pretty much an Alexander the Great analogue, just take the theories about Alexander's death and apply them to Macharius.
there is also a lot of yiff yaff about Alexanders dead, some say he died of disease, some say he got poisoned so it kinda goes to the same point we started from...
I know this is a bit off topic, but does GW forget where they put their own damn planets? I've seen Fenris in atleast 3 differant segmentums now, Ryza magically moved into Seg. Solar from Segmentum Ultima, Catachan seemes to have flown out of it's respective segmentum, and Ultramar seems to have slid south. And those were the only ones that jumped out at me! I'm sure the only planet on there in the right spot is Terra, although it does look a little to far East.

thank the gods that a lot of people say this, i thought i was getting stupid cause i noticed that the map changes all the time!
so... does this mean that Lord Solar Macharius died out of old age cause he had a 4e map and couldn't find his way home with it!?
