so, a few days ago i actually was planning to start Dark Angels, dunno if you remember thread where i had some questions about the codex and how to properly use it.
The lack of realy special style of playing and a bad codex was a bit of a downer, plus, i like to have something special, there are enough Dark Angels players out there, no need for another one i guess,
so i searched for another chapter that might be intresting,
and i found it, allthough the lets say... queery... name might be repulsive at first but the deeper fluff reveals one of the most hardcore chapters ever, also that name has nothing to do with actuall rainbows helps alot,
and no, unlike many people think it has nothing to do with that greenpeace ship, sure, it might be an extra motivation for GW to pick THAT name but the actual reason was a IRL Aztec tribe that existed and was named Rainbow Warriors, reason why they are a bit aztec themed.
but now i have some questions about the chosen weapons of them,
so wich Special and Heavy weapons do they prefer? anyone has the Rogue Trader article by hand?
also, i might need some help starting up army,
till now i have:
1 Space Marine Venerable Dreadnought (no weapons config, is exchangable)
1 Space Marine Dreadnought with Multi Melta
1 Space Marine Tactical Squad (have no special or heavy weapon yet, wanted to ask for that first)
1 Terminators Assault Squad (5 Terminators, i bought them for another chapter i was planning to play but abandoned, i heard that Rainbow Warriors don't use Termi's much so i might trade them for something new cause a Ultramarine player i know needs some Termi's)
1 Drop Pod (for Dreadnought)
1 Razorback with TL Heavy Bolter
so? what should i get next?
mind you that i'd like a fluffy army, not a power army
thx alot for listening to all this ^^
I can'y help you directly but for all things marine the best place to get info is....
The Bolter and Chainsword : A 40k Space Marine Resource
It is a Marine specialist forum. If you ask fo rfluff on the Rainbow Warriors there you're bound to get some help.
Just thought I'd point out that the Rainbow Warriors were supposedly destroyed by the Sisters of Battle.
A moment of laxity spawns a lifetime of heresy.
Never forgive, never forget.
so the SoB order was send to kick them in the bucket but 9th Company found out and made a run for it.
SoB order then went on actual Rainbow Warriors chapter instead and caused heavy losses till Ultramarines found out of this wrongfull attack and saved the day, the Rainbow Warriors being on of their sucessor chapters after all.
the 9th is now banned and classified Heretical
The first thing you need is another Troops choice, you only seem to have one. As an Ultramarine successor your best bet is to stick to Codex conventions and grab either a Scout or Tactical Squad. I don't know how the Rainbow Warriors operate so I can't really suggest one over the other in terms of fluff.
I found this, there's not a whole lot to it, but adds some fluff you could use. (Sadly it is fan fiction)
Teh Rainbow Warriors!!

The Wolf time is upon us!
Rep for the Rep God! Positive for the Positive Throne!
Armies: Space Wolves, Imperial Guard, Emperors Children, Necrons, Eldar
still thanks alot Wolf Guard!
i also had a hard time finding out anything about them, but thanks that you did the effort to search through your rogue trader articles for me.
i'm sure the fanfic will help me, since there is almost nothing known about the Rainbow Warriors there is nothing that states that it isn't that way like fanfic says, so i guess i can go with that,
again, much thanks, rep added for effort!
They were in the Cahpter Approved 2001 book.
May I suggest grabbing 'the bull by the horns' ?
Since there is little fluff about them, and fewer players ( maybe just you ), why not bring them to life yourself?
Design the chapter as you see fit, maybe starting by reading the aztec warrior sect they're named after?
I think it would be fun, creating a force from the lowly scout to the chapter's commander.
Just a thought :}
i thought a lot on how to represent the Aztec theme in my Rainbow Warriors army.
a few things i came up with:
-Drop Pods will be painted a mix of Golden and Bronze, representing the sun and stars the aztecs worshipped.
-a Chaplain wil always accompy the army, representing the priest
-chosen special and heavy weaponry will be Plasma, since Aztecs worshipped the sun and imperial plasma weapons shoot a mini-sun fluffwise, so they are like HECK YEAH! at plasma weapons.
(Sun god hates you = Plasma weapon explodes in your face, if you survive, the priest will come and shoot you in the eye!)
-Assault Marine sergeants get a pair of lightning claws since they also worshipped jaguars and stuff,
-Corvus helmet gets modelled and converted to represent a birds face, since they also worshipped eagles and stuff,
(not that they differ from the actual Imperium with that)
-and i also got some nice Temple bases from Micro Art Studio
i also had some support from my local gaming club and my lovely wife to come up with things and get the right paints,
you think this sounds good?
i will also have a though job carving aztec symbols in their armour and plasma weapons, but i think it will be worth the effort

I just want to chime in and say that if you're looking for some bits to fit your theme, you should look to the Lizardmen of Warhammer Fantasy. They, too, are based on the ancient South American cultures, and have a ton of stuff that I'm sure you could use for some nice modeling/conversion work.
I think this could be really cool, though. I can imagine your opponent laughing when he hears the Chapter's name, expecting some pink power armored crap, then gazing in awe as your army proceeds to tear him a new one.
