    Auto cannons or missile launchers?

    I'm dealing with forces of tau, eldar and dark eldar and I want to know which of the two heavy weapons is the best for a gun line Guard army. I'll be fielding like 10 in a 1500 point list

    Autocannons
    your guardsmen have BS 3, they miss 50% of shots, so 2 shots mean they can hit more often!
    Also S7 will kill Tau, Eldar and D Eldar infantry and light skimmers.
    AP4 is enough against all but the most elite, who can be taken down by mass firepower /plasma weapons/ LR battle cannons.

    AC and ML vs. the AV 11

    AC
    Hits = 1.0
    Pen = 0.33
    Destroyed = 0.11
    Final = 11% success rate

    ML
    Hits = 0.5
    Pen = 0.25
    Destroyed = .083
    Final = 8% success rate

    Summary
    The autocannon is better at killing AV11 and at a cheaper price. And because of the ability to twin-link, the autocannon only gets better because of the extra shot. Granted the Missile Launcher has AP 3 and this would be very helpful in an only infantry list, if you are running any Russes at all, you can just paste whatever the AC knocks out of the transport.

    AC's are definitely the bread and butter choice, but I'd suggest trying out some ML's too. Against tau MLs are awesome for the instant (armour negating) kill on crisis suits and the extra strength on armor 12....I never leave home without them (for tau). I find my AC's tend to be sort of lack luster against tau transports and crisis suits, but that is just my experience. I also find the frag missile is useful agains such soft troops. Mathhammer is definitely a good basis to keep in mind, but also don't be afraid to test something out yourself.

    You need around a 50/50 mix of lascannons and autocannons in an all-comers force. Autocannons used to be all you needed, but the Nids have changed that with all of the 2+ and 3+ saves on their big nasties. Missile launchers are useful here, but not against light armor (~30% less likely to kill vs. LCs & ACs). So the duality of the autocannnon and lascannon wins out in an all-comers force.

    autocannons by themselves are nice, but a few lascannons/missle launchers would be helpful, i say a 50/50 mix would do you well.

    I'm in the 100% group, my vendettas give me my lascannons, with my infantry having autocannons, but I can see logic in the 50/50.

    In my 1500, I have 1 vendetta and 1 infantry squad with a lascannon and 2 infantry squads with autocannons. The number of autocannons will be increased as more infantry units are built though.

    If i could vote i would go with the mixed lascannons / autocannons, and not put all my eggs in one basket.
    Jager bombs. Very efficient at wiping out friend or foe.
